Who: Gianna DePaolo (Khione)
What: Confronting the Source
When: Thursday Afternoon
Status: Narrative
Having sat on the floor near the elevator for about twenty minutes, Gianna calmed down enough to move. Taking the elevator to the lobby, she walked around aimlessly for a few hours. Tears still came whenever she’d let her mind wander towards the little bit of news the doctor had given her. Jumping on the first train to Brooklyn, she was fuming now.
Walking briskly from the train station to the restaurant, Gianna had a lot to say and she was going to say it. Throwing the door to the kitchen open, her stare bore down on a few people. “Where is my mother?!” Having heard her come in, Mrs. DePaolo walked around into sight. ”What’s wrong? Why are you upset?”
With a look of outrage, Gianna let her mother have it. “What’s wrong? Why am I upset? How else would you expect me to react when I found out that my puttana of a mother cheated on the only man I have known as my father, got pregnant and passed me off as his? How could you? Mother… seriously!”
Standing there silent for a moment, Gianna’s father came to the rescue. “Don’t you dare talk to your mother like that. I knew about the affair… I’m not that naïve child. What was the point in telling you? You are my daughter regardless and I have forgiven your mother. Now apologize for speaking so rudely.”
With her temper rising even more, she went on with her little rampage. Her own father had been in on it? How could they keep that bit of information from her? “You knew? You knew and didn’t tell me? Don’t you think I had a right to know!” Turning to her mother, she had the eyes of the devil in her. “Did you even know his name? Did you even care to ask or did you just bend over and hike up your skirt?”
That comment got her a slap across the face from her father. Turning on her heel, she stormed out of the kitchen and then out of the restaurant. Okay, so maybe it had been horrible to say that to her mother, but she was upset… in shock even. She was no longer Gianna DePaolo. Heading back to her apartment in the city, it was the only place she could call home now.
