Who Jack Olsen and Marissa Berkeley (Jack and the Dark-Haired Mermaid)
What Friendly Phone Conversation
When late at nightish
Where From their separete homes
Rating nothing over PG, shocking huh?
Jack hadn't seen his girlfriend in quite some time. To a point he was about to kick in the door of Jared's and Marissa's. But that would end in Marissa being pissed. And Jared calling the cops like the snob he was. So he setteled. After a good ten minutes of searching for his cell phone. He dialed the number, and when he heard the phone picked up he snapped into play. "Baby! What's up!?"
Marissa was sitting in front of her fireplace, placed a little bit awkwardly on a pillow with her pregnant body and tossing yet another script into the flames. Glancing over at an unfimilar sound, she realized Clarice's phone was going off. Picking it up, she saw Jack's name, raised an eyebrow and answered. This could potentially be fun. Hearing Jack on the other end, she held back a giggle, "Oh hey baby!"
Jack didn't hear Clarice. He heard the other girl at one point he had used that pet name once before. His face instantly went hot and he instantly went silent. He did not like when this stuff happened. Act cool. "Oh yes of course darling. You're always my number one girl. Ya know? We just can't let Jared know the baby's mine."
Marissa let her laughter out as she tossed more paper into her well built fire, not missing a beat. "I better be your number one girl, even though my poor baby sister would be devastated." She shook her head and let out a sigh. "Sadly, she can't come to the phone right now. I've taken it hostage for the time being."
"What!? You can't do that. I need to talk to her.." He put a pout face on like she could see as he plopped on his couch. He let his feet fly up and fall onto the coffee table that was filled with legal and illeagal work. He was still all smiles. "Well how are we doing my favorite baby carrying friend?"
"Oh but I can. Its in everyones best interest too. She doesnt need a phone with a camera on it right now. Theres a landline here if she needs to call anyone." Marissa truely believed she was being rational. It seemed pregnancy had made her crazy. "Well...I look like gigantor, and i'm tired of being stuck on bed rest and I'm ready to get this baby out of me. How are you?"
"I can perform minor surgery if you like?" He teased to her. Jack had heard the reasons and he decided that pregnant women were just fucking crazy. "And I'm sure you look just fine love. I mean. Pregnatcy is a beautiful thing. Right? Bringing another life into the world. Just remember. You have to pay equal attention to Jared. We don't want him acting up like a spoiled brat too."
"You know, as much as I love you and trust you completely....I think I'll pass." She teased him back and adjusted her position, leaning slightly against Sammy, who was lying next to her and using him like a pillow. "Yeah. I'm starting to believe thats utter crap. I mean its great and all but all that bullshit about glowing and crap? Its crap. I look like an elephant. And i waddle!" She whined slightly. She couldn't help it. "and theres nothing to worry about there. I can keep Jared perfectly happy and content thank you."
"Okay. But I'm coming over to see you woddle dearest." He teased more. He would love to see that, even if it killed him. "So hows work going and all that fancy stuff? Any one going crazy or shit?" He paused. He hadn't talked to her since the car. "How's Lilly?"
"Oh hell no my friend. You know I care for you deeply, but theres no way in hell i'm going to let you see me waddle. The only one who gets to see that is my husband, and thats because hes stuck with me. Believe me, your not missing anything." She made a face even though Jack couldn't see it. While she was excited and all for the baby, she did not like the actual 'being' pregant part. "works going surprising well for only working at home. No one's going crazy. things have been good. Lilly's doing great, shes got a boyfriend...spends a lot of time out of the house and all that teenage stuff."
"Awe. I thought you loved me more than that." He teased making his own face perdicting hers. It was good to talk to Marissa. He hadn't been able to see her really because of Jared's problem with him. But he didn't care anymore. "No crazies. That's good." He smiled. "Teenage stuff..." How he missed it. "That's good." He smiled. "So we're going to have the kid before christmas right?"
"Oh you know I love you." She smiled on her end of the phone and scratched her dogs ear. "Yep. She should be out and about on the 9th of December. or at least thats the date they gave me. Once shes out and i go back to looking normal your going to come see her right?" She paused. "How've you been doing? I haven't really heard from you since the car incident."
"Of course I am. If you can keep Jared from killing me. Because last I checked he is still not the happiest." he smiled. Things were changing so quick. So fast. Then she asked him how he was doing. He was almost done tieing up the loose ends of the illegal part of his life. And the repo and car shop job was going fine. Being sober was cool. But he would still fiend for it some times. He sighed heavily. "So what are you going to name the baby?" He didn't want to go back to that night. He didn't want to think about it ever. Never again.
"He may not like you but he'll deal. Because I absolutely insist you come and see her. Plus I think Clarice would like to see you too. Shes gonna need to, because she hates sharing attention. and theres gonna be a lot of attention on the baby." She laughed lightly and then noticed his sigh. "Thats a surprise." She made a slight face. "Are you okay?" She could feel he didnt want to talk about that night, and that was fine. but now she was concerned.
"I'm fine Marissa." He smiled weakly as he stared in the distance. He never got caught. And he probably wouldn't of if he didn't have Lilly with. He was to busy keeping her out of trouble and keeping her safe. It was right thing that he allowed himself to get caught, and the girl with a future not. But the guilt was still there. "You know me Marissa. I'm always okay. I can't not be okay. I'm Jack."
Marissa frowned. "I know that you want me to think your okay, but your not okay. I can hear it in your voice. Whats wrong Jack?" No matter how hard he'd tried, he could get it past her. Even over the phone, Marissa knew Jack better then that, and he knew it too.
"Nothing Marissa." He hated that she knew him so fucking well. It bugged the shit out of him sometimes. But it was reversed to. He knew her just as well. If he could say anyone was a best friend. It would be her. "Really Marissa. I'm fine. I just don't want to go back to that night." He stated. "I have to focus on the future. And my girlfriend..ya know?"
"Mmmhmmm" She said, still frowning and tossing another page into the fire. "Okay, so its that night thats bothering you. You don't have to go back to it, we don't have to talk about it. I just want to make sure your okay." She sighed and nodded her head. "Yeah. and thats good to hear. Focusing on the future and all.." She paused and smiled again. "Would you like to speak to your girlfriend? I can yell for her if you'd like."
He thought for a momment. No. Talking to one Ambrose was good enough. But. He smiled. "Yes. Have her call me please." He smiled his voice going soft. "Thank you for being such a good friend to me." As lost as he was most of the time.
"I'll have her call you. on the landline because shes not getting her phone back til i pop." She grinned, but her smile softened at his next comment. "No problem Jack. If you ever need anything at all, I'm here for you, you know that."
"I know. I'll talk to you later." And with out letting her respond the phone was hung up. He tossed the phone onto the table and stared at his feet. "Damn it. I need a drink..."
"Okay. Later Jack." She hung up her sisters phone and placed it back underneath a near by chair where she'd hidden all the camera's in her house and let out a sigh looking into her fire, pausing a moment before yelling for her sister.
