Jacqueline’s mind was buzzing with a thousand different thoughts as she stood in front of the mirror, staring down at her feet and slowly allowing her eyes to move upwards. She looked good, right? Swallowing the continuously growing lump in her throat she turned on the spot to inspect her dress from the back, smoothing out the material on the front with her hands as she did so. Long ago had she given up the battle of tugging the green dress downwards, for every time it only meant she had to pull it up from the top again to stop that from being too revealing. Marlene had told her she looked good in the dress though so Jacqueline should trust that her friend was right… because she couldn’t remember the last time she’d been so nervous about something and taking it out on her appearance wasn’t helping at all.
Maybe she had too much makeup on. The young female leaned in closer and squinted at herself for a moment before realising how ridiculous she was being. Yes, this was her last Homecoming but there was no reason to be this nervous over it. None. Not even the fact she was going with Noah. Nope. That fact was definitely not why she was completely freaking out right now. “Right,” she whispered to herself finally releasing the breath of air she seemed to have been holding.
Slipping on her silver heels Jacqueline stood up straight and took one last look in the mirror and decided that was it. She could wait in the lounge room for Noah and watch television or something but apparently the teenage girl had misjudged the amount of time she’d spent in her room for the moment she stepped foot in the lounge room the sound of a car pulling up caught her ears. Her dark eyes grew as wide as dinner plates and she froze on the spot, before dropping her bag on the couch and rushing back to the mirror. She should wipe off some of this make up; she didn’t want to look like she was trying too hard. But it was only eye makeup! If she took it off then maybe she wouldn’t have enough on…
Her thoughts were stopped dead in their tracks when she heard a knock at the door. Oh my god… Taking a deep breath Jacqueline walked to the door, practically giving herself a pep talk and after a couple of moments of just staring at the wood in front of her she opened the door.
