Derek sat beside a bare-bulb lamp, flipping pages in a rather ominous tome. He did have an affection for books, even if he was not an avid reader. He had found this particular book a while ago, it was old and he hoped it would have some useful information in it. Peter had apparently transferred all of the information he needed from his books onto his Macbook, and he kept the thing password protected and was refusing to give Derek access. He had considered smashing the thing in a moment of outrage, but that could possibly result in the loss of the Hale Bestiary forever, and he was not willing to risk that.
Sadly, this particular book was not proving to be terribly useful, and the fact that the room was silent, save for his turning of the pages was making him a little more surly than usual. He heard Isaac approaching before he saw him, Derek did not bother to look up, offering a quiet gruff in place of a greeting. It was Isaac's words which caused him to blink rapidly, move his head in a slow, shaking motion, and only then look at the younger wolf.
"You've been spending too much time with Peter." It was the very first words he could come up with, delivered with the smallest hint of outrage. Eyes slightly narrowed, Derek studied Isaac a moment before deliberately flipping the book closed. "Our Pack is Pack. They are people, to be respected. They are not objects to be shared." Derek paused to let that sink in before standing, setting the book on the small table beside his chair.
"Her name is Sophie, she's new to town and staying here. She's part of our Pack now." Mostly, she was sort of on trial, but better to not waver in front of Isaac. "And she is not warming my bed," he added shortly. "You're staying?" Isaac came and went, Derek was never quite sure when he would show up. He did hope that the Pack House would provide him a more desirable, more comfortable place once the renovations were finished. He was trying to be a good Alpha, even if he was being very quiet about his efforts.
