Who: Bobby, Kitty and Jubes (kinda) Where: On the Phone When: Monday Night Rating: PG Status: COMPLETE
"Hey... I was getting worried." Bobby mumbled into the phone. It was a little late, and he was makeing an attempt not to wake Matt, which was really easier said than done. Matt could hear anything, "It's kinda late, Kitty."
"He-- Oh, yeah. Sorry. I don't have any service here. It's pretty touch and go," Kitty replied, happy to hear Bobby's voice. She could have done without the mini lecture, though. "I figured better late than never." She shrugged even though he couldn't see it.
"Yeah. I guess. I'm just glad to hear you." He sounded relieved, in a way. He'd obviously been much more worried than he initially realized. "How's the camping going? Oh! And I talked to Clarice. She wants you to call her too. She's kinda worried about you too."
"We're fine out here. Turns out my mutant powers come in handy when you run out of toilet paper and food." She didn't like to admit to stealing, but when you were 'roughing it', you did what you had to to survive. And surviving happened to include nicking a few bags of chips from a nearby household. She'd left a few dollars on the counter, if it made any difference. "I'm glad to hear you, too."
"Well, I guess we're all kinda more useful than we'd like to admit." Bobby replied knowingly. Since she'd left, he'd found a few of his own practical uses for his powers, which made him feel quite a bit more confident in his control over them. Though, his uses were definitely a lot more legal. He didn't blame her though. "So..." He sort of blushed at her comment, and was having a bit of trouble recovering, "When do you guys think you'll be back?"
Kitty hesitated. She didn't want to go back. In fact, Bobby was the only reason she might go back, if she wasn't caught, anyways. She missed him more than she missed anything at that school. But she didn't feel safe there and that was a big deal. "I don't know. A while, at least."
"Oh." Bobby responded, sounding a bit deflated. He'd seriously been hoping she'd be coming back soon. She was worried about her--both of them actually--and was pretty sure people were catching on. He'd noticed Logan sniffing around Jubilee's room the other day, which was a bad sign.
She caught his tone, and smiled, hoping he could hear it. "I mean, maybe we could come back for some supplies?" She wanted to see him, and it sounded like he wanted to see her.
If it was even possible to hear a smile, Bobby would've loved to hear that one. But he definitely perked up when she suggested that they could come back for supplies, "Oh, yeah. That'd be cool." He tried to be chill about it, but there was a definite hint of enthusiasm to his voice.
"So, what's been happening around there? Did anyone get in trouble for the party?" Kitty was curious about the party, mostly because she'd left early. She had briefly asked Bobby about it in emails, but he hadn't been that direct. Had he gotten drunk? Did he get with another girl? She didn't think they were possibilities, but with the beer in the equation anything was possible. Asking about repercussions was the easiest way she could think of to bring it up, especially when the heat was on her and her camping trip at the moment.
"Not a whole lot. No one got in trouble for the party, but Brian and JP aren't allowed to leave the grounds until school starts. I think it has something to do with Sue. Other than that... It's been pretty quiet... I kinda stay out of my room, just because I think Matt and his girlfriend hang out in there most of the time or something." If she could've seen him shrug, he would've, "But really, it's been kinda boring. You're not missing much."
"Oh. You don't want to hang out with Matt and Elektra?" She asked it in a way that sounded sort of innocent, but had underlying motives for anyone who was really listening. Perhaps if Bobby double dated with them, for instance. She was really just trying to hint around their mutual likeness of the other. They hadn't had The Talk yet, and Kitty wasn't so great at trying to make her territory, so to speak, known.
Bobby laughed, "Well, no, not really. Not while they're doing whatever they're doing. And anyway, wouldn't it be kinda weird? I mean, I'd be like a third wheel." Maybe if she was there though... He definitely got along with Matt, and Elektra was pretty cool. He wouldn't be opposed to a double date with them.
"What do they do?" That was actual innocence, by the way. Kitty was pretty naive as far as sex and the like. "I mean. I don't know." She lost her train of thought. At least Bobby mentioned being a third wheel. That suggested no fourth wheel.
"I really don't know." Bobby answered truthfully. He had definite ideas of what they were most probably doing, but he didn't know for sure. And he was definitely not the gossipy type. He wasn't about to spread rumors about his roommate. "Make out, I guess. Whatever. It's their business."
"Make out? Right. That's what couples do, I guess," she answered, nonchalantly. She'd never even kissed a boy. Who was she kidding, trying to be with Bobby. He probably wanted a girl who loved making out. Or, at the very least, was good at it. She was probably terrible.
"Yeah." Bobby muttered, not really sure how to respond to that. Frankly, the last person he'd made out with was a boy, and from all his lack of contact with the female half of the species as of late, he wasn't particularly worried about any bad kissing. If anything, he was worried about him being terrible, "I guess." He added, repeating her.
This was starting get awkward. Kitty cleared her throat. "Hold on," she said suddenly. "I'll ask Jubes if we can come back soon." She covered the receiver just enough so that her voice was muffled, but not enough that he could actually hear her speaking. "Jubes. Can we go back to school for a few days so I can see Bobby?" There was a pause. Then, Jubilee's voice rang through loud and clear. "Um, are you seriously asking me that? No. You said we, and that means I have to see him too, and I don't want to because all you two will be doing is kissing and that's gross." Kitty gave her a look before removing her hand from the receiver. "She said it's cool."
Bobby laughed, "Tell Jubes I say hi." He was feeling quite a bit better knowing that they'd be coming back soon, even if it was for only a couple of days. Though, he was pretty sure that once they were back someone would probably have something to say about them leaving again. It was becoming pretty obvious that they were gone. "So... Soon then? Should I tell Clarice?"
"If you don't mind? I'm not sure if I can get another phone call out of this. I might have to sneak in and plug this in while someone's at work." Her phone was slowly dying. "Plan on us being back by...Thursday. We'll have to take the train in."
"Yeah. Okay. I'll let her know." Bobby was grinning now, "I'll see you soon then." He was definitely excited to see her.
"Yeah." She was smiling too. Ear to ear. "I miss you," she said, after a little courage was mustered up. Kitty wasn't one to express her feelings that often, but felt it was necessary with Bobby so far away.
Wow. That was sort of a surprise. No, surprise wasn't the right word, but it was definitely unexpected. In a good way though. Bobby's grin broadened, "I miss you too."
Kitty blushed, thankful that he couldn't see it. "Okay, well. Good night. Sorry if I woke you up."
"Nah. I wasn't sleeping." Not yet anyway. He'd still been sort of awake, "Good night. I'll see you Thursday!"
