"At least you tried to do something," Doreen said, also uncharacteristically glum. "I didn't do anything but need saving. I couldn't help my squirrels. I couldn't help Laurie. I couldn't help anyone." She closed her eyes as the tears started up again. She tried to wipe them away.
She looked a little startled at the revelation, rubbing the back of her neck gingerly. "That was you?" She gave her tail a little flick. "Well, you did it to help, right? Th-thanks. Sorry I gave you so much trouble."
