1. This is an adult era game and the characters will be involved in adult-centred plots. For that reason, we will accept no applicants under the age of 18. If the moderators discover that an underaged player has lied during the application process, that player will be immediately removed from the game. Period.
2. We are a canon based game, meaning that all canon up to and including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is considered part of your character’s backstory (with the exclusion of the Epilogue). While the game takes place post-Hogwarts, and there is some license in where they are now – current canon must be the starting place for that backstory.
3. Godmodding is punishable by lashes with wet noodles. Godmodding is defined for game purposes as:
a. Taking information gleaned from OOC planning posts and private posts and using it to make your character appear all knowing. b. Mentioning another character saying or doing something without first clearing it with that character’s player. For instance, you can say that you saw Susan Bones at the Ministry, you can’t say you saw her dancing on the ceiling wearing only a turban and a smile…unless Susan’s player approves. a. If you want to mention the actions of another character, please email/IM ping them and discuss the matter. Players should endeavor to respond to fellow players as soon as possible even if it’s merely a “yes that’s fine”.
4. MarySue’s have many incarnations in the RP world and we ask you to please characterize responsibly. No superpowers and no perfect people. Humans have flaws and foibles. Revel in them.
5. We are open to het, slash, and gen, but an equal mix is the goal, just like in life.
6. OCs (Original Characters) will not be accepted at this time. There are plenty of Canon characters to choose from, a few of which there is absolutely no information on besides a name or appearance. These can be developed to your liking.
7. No OOC (out of character) comments in the game proper. All OOC comments belong in the OOC community.
8. Character journals belong to the game. If you need to leave the game for whatever reason, in order to keep the game consistent, we ask that you leave your journal behind. All players will need to leave their journal password with the mods in case of emergency.
9. All characters are required to post once a week. Role-play logs do not count, nor do Private posts. “Charmed posts” are limited to ONE per character per week. These posts should only be available to one other character. No comments (replies to journal entries) can be charmed, only an entire post. We are a journal-based game and look for interaction between all the characters primarily via their journals. 10. NPCs (Non-player characters) are acceptable as part of your character’s life but will not be given a journal of their own. We ask that the player limit the number of NPCs to immediate family, friends, or co-workers. These do not need to be approved unless they are involved in something that is potentially game altering.
The Game Mechanics post details how the game will be played and works as a FAQ. You will also find links to sample posts, to give applicants an idea of how the game will be played. If you have any additional questions, please comment on the post or send an email to tangledweb.mods@googlemail.com.
