Konzen lay on his back, thrown downward by the creature of earth as Gojun called out his name in worry. The being straddled him, his golden eyes trained downward hungry and wild. Konzen stared upward, wide eyed at the knowledge, at the truth of his charge with his bottomless stomach, always distracted by play and flowers. A boy who loved to bask in the sun and make a mess of the papers stacked neatly on his desk. Behind Goku’s kind eyes lurked that which killed gods on a whim, the blood that ebbed away bringing a smile to his face.
It was so strange to Konzen, as he lay there gazing up at what could be his death. Strange because he found that he didn’t mind if this were the last sight that he’d see. Something swelled within him, and he found that he only… just this once…
And almost of their own volition, the blonde’s hands rose from his sides, these hands of his that could only wish to hold, to protect. And suddenly Konzen had grasped hold of the being, surprising them both. Encircling arms pulled Goku close as Konzen rose, a hand sifting through dark unruly locks as he spoke softly to the youth, gentle words that Goku couldn’t know. But the arms around him were solid and strong, pulling him into the blonde’s lap. The closeness of the god and the warmth that he exuded spoke of things that words could never say. The press of lips to the youth’s brow caused something to expand within him. In Goku’s mind arose the recognition of friend, of keeper, of more? And then the seiten taisei felt as though he was falling so swiftly into the depths of quiet, of slumber, of solitude, but the promise of those arms was there to break his fall.
