Title: The Bond That Lies Between Us

Word Count: 1,563
Summary: Sequel to In Need. Yuuri comes to a decision about recent developments.
“It’s a relief to have that thing off,” Yuuri remarked at the dinner table while flexing the fingers of his right hand. He’d gone earlier in the afternoon to the doctor’s office where, to his great relief, they’d removed the cast from his arm.
“Now I don’t have to hear you complain about it,” Shori remarked as he sat next to him.
“Now, now you two,” their mother said as she set dessert in front of her two boys and her husband. “Don’t argue at the table. And the two of you seemed to be getting closer before.”
Their mother’s words caused Shori to drop his head, his lips in a thin line. Yuuri watched him out of the corner of his eye as he dug into the dessert, topped with a creamy frosting. Their parents were apparently oblivious to the tension that now hovered over the dinner table. Ever since what had occurred a few weeks ago, the relationship between he and his brother seemed strained. Most times, Shori acted as though nothing had happened between them, but there were times like now where when reminded, he behaved in an embarrassed fashion. Yuuri sighed. How should Shori act, exactly? It was something that shouldn’t have even happened. So why did Yuuri feel annoyed at his brother’s behavior? Had he wanted a repeat of what Shori had done to him? Yuuri continued to eat in silence. It was probably for the best.
Feeling a pair of eyes on him, Yuuri turned to look up at his brother, who was gazing at him, a strange expression on his face. He looked as though he was considering something.
“What?” Yuuri asked, his fork hovering above his saucer.
His eyes widened slightly as Shori’s hand moved toward his face, a thumb rubbing across his lower lip. “You’re always so messy when you eat, Yuuri,” his brother said, his eyes glittering with a familiar emotion, his voice low. “It’s almost like you’re still a child sometimes.”
Shori pulled away, clearing his throat before frowning and eating his dessert more neatly than his younger brother had. Yuuri stared at him a moment, swallowing before looking away. He tried not to flush at the heat that started to build in his gut.
