Blood and Water
Title: Blood and Water
Fandom: D.Gray-Man
Characters: Tiki & Suman
Prompt: 51 - Water
Word Count: 621

Summary: Hunter and hunted. Vague manga spoilers.
A gentle breeze tousling dark hair, Tiki surveyed the scene before him. His step light, he strode across the surface of the lake, making a path among the half-submerged bodies of his enemy. Their blood tinted the water, life having ebbed away into the depths.
The Noah sighed, running a hand absently through dark locks. A shame that none of them had been on his list. It was annoying to work so hard to no avail. The tasks that the Earl gave him could be so troublesome at times.
The sound of splashing water drew his attention to a rocky structure nearby. The black and white of the uniform told Tiki that it was an exorcist who’d escaped the initial battle. The man gasped as he was sighted, cringing on the Noah’s approach. The still waters rippled at Tiki’s footsteps across its surface, the other man watching the feat with horrified fascination.
A grin split Tiki’s face as he crouched to better regard the huddled form. “What’s your name?” Perhaps he’d finally make progress with the long list he’d been given by the Earl.
He watched the man’s eyes widen, the hint of tears in them as he gave answer, hurriedly followed by a plea for his own life. “I have a daughter – she’s so sick…” Suman added in explanation.
Wicked grin fading to pleasant smile, a white gloved hand was laid upon the exorcist’s shoulder. “I understand,” Tiki began. “You want to see her again, don’t you?”
“Y-Yes,” Suman answered, unnerved by the Noah’s hand moving from his shoulder to cup his cheek.
Golden eyes burned into his. “Then, I need some information. It’s a small sacrifice to gain what you want.”
Suman’s eyes were drawn to the bodies of his comrades, those he’d deserted in the midst of battle to seek escape. They were gone, having made their choice to stand and fight against a foe that had killed them so easily. He had a chance, a chance that he must now take. For her. For himself.
The Noah made a note of the information that Suman obtained through his golem from headquarters. Once he finished this task, he could get some much needed rest. But first…
A gloved hand cupped the exorcist’s cheek, sliding down to his neck. “Thank you, Suman. You’ve been so helpful to me.”
“So then, I can go?” the man asked, hopeful as he watched the Noah smile.
“Of course,” he answered. “I promised, didn’t I?”
Suman’s eyes were drawn toward Tiki’s other hand and the rippling of the man’s palm as his minion began to emerge. Trying to draw back, Suman was prevented by the man’s vice-like grip on his shoulder. Then there was the strange sensation of the Noah’s hand disappearing into his chest. Golden eyes caught the exorcist’s horrified gaze.
“If she’s as sick as you say, I’m sure that she’ll meet you soon,” Tiki murmured to him, pulling him close.
A moment later, the exorcist was pushed backward, landing noisily in the water as Tiki laughed. The man clutched at his chest as he flailed, feeling a strange fluttering within his body, wanting to claw the creature out of himself.
“Behave now, Tease,” Tiki told the creature, who could somehow hear him from within the man’s frame. “You must leave him alive for awhile if you want to grow.”
Rising, the Noah turned to leave, the sound of his steps on the lake’s surface drowned out by the exorcist’s frightened screams. A shame that he couldn’t stay, but he had so much work he still had to do. Perhaps he’d catch up with the exorcist before his end. The birth of more Tease was always a sight to behold.
