WHO Marlene McKinnon, Sirius Black WHAT Sirius comes for a visit and him and Marlene catch up on things. WHERE Marlene's apartment, together with Lily, and Dorcas. WHEN[backdated] Afternoon, september 9th. RATING PG. STATUS log, finished.
Sirius Black was a very, very, very bored little boy.
He’d slept in late, not waking up until one pm and not getting from his bed until two. Without James, it was just too easy to sleep in, and actually relax. He wasn’t used to that, but he didn’t mind it. From now on, he would lock the door so his best mate couldn’t get in and disturb him while he dreamt. When he did stand, he brushed his teeth and did everything a human would do, including staring at himself for about an hour in the mirror and fixing up his hair. Again, without James, it was much easier. He began to dislike everything being easy by that time. After he was done, he had taken a look around the apartment and decided to flee.
Everything was a mess, like James had predicted it would be, and he hadn’t had the chance to clean it merely because he didn’t want to. He’d get one of the girls to do it sometime soon. Which reminded him, now that he wasn’t on speaking terms with Remus (at least not as much), he had more time to waste over at his girlfriend’s apartment, hang out with his friends that were girls. So he did; apparating to their apartment building and using the key he had once stolen to get inside. Once in, he noticed a head of blonde that he hadn’t spoken to in quite some time, patting her head to announce he was there.
“Hey,”
“Hi,” Marlene smiled up at him, obviously pleased to see him, but the wrinkles on her forehead told asked another story; she was wondering why he was there and how he got in. In her lap was sat a bucket of vanilla ice-cream, two spoons because she didn’t think one was enough. She’d spend her afternoon doing nothing special, took a walk and finished up some errands. The homework the Order and Auror training gave her was done too, neatly bundled together on the table. “What’re you doing here, Black?”
Sirius slouched, his hands into his pockets and a shrug rolling from his shoulders, “Dunno,” his grey gaze went around the apartment, scrutinizing it. Much cleaner here than it was where he lived, thankfully. “Lils not around?” He then questioned, not seeing the redhead present.
“No, she’s out, somewhere,” Her nose wrinkled this time, trying to figure out where her roommate was, “I think she’s at work,” And then she looked suspicious, though the small smile that hovered over her mouth told anyone that she was just playing around, “Why? Not cheating on Dorcas, are you?”
Sirius couldn’t help but snort at that mere idea, not the cheating business (he’d done it before, so he was no stranger to it) but cheating on the girl he liked, loved, whatever, with Lily of all people. She’d never allow it, and neither would he. “No, Marls,” he answered her as he walked, taking his time to go through the living room before plopping down onto the sofa, throwing one arm around her neck in a friendly gesture. “Why would I cheat with Lily, when I could have you?” He puckered his lips, making them extra wet as he leant forward.
“Ew, Sirius!” Her hand pushed his face back by his forehead, although laughingly. “No thanks.” The spoon was brought to her mouth, and she chewed on it when the vanilla ice-cream melted into her mouth. “Seriously, though,” she shot a glare at him when noticing the pun, “You need to stop touching, flirting, or even looking at other girls. Dorcas doesn’t like it, it makes her feel--” Marlene searched for the right word, but couldn’t find it. “Uncomfortable,” she then settled for, nodding to herself. “Lily and I, we’re in the green zone. But everyone aside us is just a no go,”
“Looking, too?” Sirius furrowed his brows, though there was a hint of a smile on his features. “Next thing you’ll tell me is that I can’t think about them either,”
Marlene pursed her lips. “Do you?”
“No,” the answer was given quickly, as though she’d do something to him if he didn’t answer negatively. “Of course not, why would I?” Sirius laughed quietly, although this turned into a hack as he avoided her gaze.
Marlene, at seeing this, hit his shoulder with the spoon. “You better not hurt my best friend,” she threatened, waving the silver utensil around.
“Of course not, Mar.” His gaze had softened at this, and he smiled sincerely at her even though his hand was rubbing his now hurting shoulder, “She’s my friend just as much as my girlfriend, I wouldn’t want to hurt her.”
“Good,” the blonde was glad to hear it, and she ruffled his hair affectionately before turning back to her bucket of ice-cream. “Now, are you here to take Dorcas’ underwear or something? I know where she hides her favorite ones,”
Again with the underwear, Sirius mused as he re-did his hair to perfection, remembering Lily’s words from earlier this week. He didn’t have the heart to tell her he much preferred the material off than on. But then again, which male didn’t? “No, I’m just checking up on you and Lily,” He was, sort of. And he just wanted the company. “But seeing as Evans isn’t here, I’ll just settle for you.”
“Thanks,” the sarcasm was dripping from her words, “I appreciate that so much.”
“Thought you would,” he winked at her, before taking a clear look around once more. “Where did you stash the alcohol?” He was in the mood for some free booze, as he had already finished his own.
“Accio alcohol,” Marlene waved her once-pocketed wand around, hearing the cabinets in their kitchen open and a few beer cans flying out. She caught them all, before scrunching her nose in slight distaste. “Ugh, Lily bought muggle beer!” She didn’t like that for some reason, and the redhead knew this. Just because she hadn’t done the dishes didn’t mean she had to suffer, thank you very much!
“I like it,” Sirius responded, taking a can from her hands and opening it. He was fond of all.
Marlene put the ice-cream aside, thinking she’d finish it up later. Now she would drink with her mate, whether she liked the beer or not. “Okay, fine,” she sighed, rather heavily. “I’ll drink it this time.”
“Good girl,” he responded, tugging carelessly on one of her blonde curls. “What have you been up to, then?”
She wasn’t sure how to respond to that, and instead opened her own can of beer and brought it to her mouth, taking a sip. Her taste buds didn’t appreciate the bitter taste, but she didn’t care, blurting out. “I slept with James,”
Sirius nodded, his head bobbing up and down, “I’m dating Dorcas,”
She turned towards him, disarray clear in her eyes. “I already knew that,”
He shrugged, shoulders heaving, not bothered. “I didn’t know how else to respond to that,” was his reasoning, taking a good chug from the beer.
“Oh,” Marlene became quiet, unsure of how to carry on their lack of a conversation.
“Why?” This was the first thing that had popped into mind after he finished his beer. Sirius couldn’t really comprehend it, while he had talked to Dorcas about them, Marlene and James; but he hadn’t thought it would become anything. He teased his best mate mercilessly about him liking blonde, curls, everything that reminded them of Marlene, really – but not in a hundred years had he actually expected them to get somewhere. Then again, he hadn’t thought of dating Dorcas a fourth time, either.
“I don’t know,” came her soft response, fingers clenching around the can in her hands. Hell, she didn’t even know why that had been the first thing that had sprung into mind when he asked what she’d been up to. It had happened about four, almost five, days ago after all. “It was just so warm; I think I lost all rational thoughts.” Well, that was a lie; she had still known what the heck she’d been doing. “I don’t know what to think now, when he comes back.”
“Look, Mar, it’ll be fine. If he hurts you, you know you can always come to me and I’ll see if Dorcas would like a threesome.” And again with the jokes. He was sure she didn’t appreciate that. “Okay. I’ll stop with the commenting now.”
“Thanks,” Her cinnamon eyes rolled into his direction, obviously not amused. She still didn’t have a solution to her problem. But maybe this wasn’t the time to talk about that. She had two whole weeks—correction, nine days—to mope about that one. “What have you been up to, then?”
“You know, the usual.” He shrugged, before elaborating. “Making a mess, hanging out in strip clubs, arguing with Remus.” He frowned at the last, but kept up his happy display.
“Still?” Marlene questioned, narrowing her eyes at him. She’d heard about that, or at least Sirius’ version of how Remus didn’t trust him enough to tell him about Fabian and all that. She thought he was being a bit too harsh, but probably would have acted the same if Dorcas or Lily turned out to be dating a girl (or worse, each other. She’d never fit in!) “You need to get over that, silly.”
“When you stop spreading your legs, maybe.” It was a joke, but that wouldn’t stop her from hitting him, probably.
Marlene did, albeit it was only her knuckles pressing into his cheek as though she had just punched him. And then, a smile sprawled over face. “We’re two right sods, aren’t we?” came her laughter, shaking her head of curls. It was then that she heard the front door opening, the laughter ebbing away but still smiling contently. “I think that’s Lily.”
Sirius, too, had heard a door creaking open, launching himself from the sofa after disentangling himself from the blonde, “I’m going to check!” And he was off, taking a sprint into the direction of the noises.
“Remember, no looking!” Marlene called after him.
“Har, har! Oi, Lily, what’s in those bags?”
CRASH.
"What the fuck is happening there, Sirius? Lily? Lily? Lily!"
