Forgiveness was something that Sam had wanted for herself on more than one occasion, and still wanted, if she was being perfectly honest. But most of all she needed it from herself. It was usually fairly easy for her to extend it to others, but she was still holding a number of grudges against her own mistakes. It was Cas's mistakes that were currently on the table here, though, and she heard him out quietly and patiently.
More than anything else, she felt sympathy for the shame and regret that he was exhibiting. She'd never seen that much emotion in her friend before, but it was real and genuine and, frankly, heartbreaking to see. He had taken on too much power, he had sacrificed his friendships and Sam's sanity in a misguided but well-meant attempt to save the world. Rather than being upset over it-- it hadn't happened to her, and he had done what he could to make up for it-- she took the grain of relevant information in it and turned it over in her mind. Her memories hadn't simply been lost, they had been purposefully put behind a wall. If the wall came down, she would go through the same thing the other Sam had-- hallucinations, loss of ability to sleep. Maybe. Or maybe something different had happened to her, but she didn't think that was the case. It rang too true for her to doubt any of it.
She didn't say anything, even when he paused to eat. It was a lot to take in, in terms of the information and also the sheer emotion involved. Violence, danger, betrayal, trust broken, sanity lost, and the world on the verge of destruction yet again; so much for thinking that she was leaving behind a safe world when she'd jumped into the pit. It was possible that wouldn't all happen in her world, of course, but it was at least as possible that it would. Or some variation on it would happen.
At least it ended on a somewhat hopeful note. "Closing hell?" she asked. "So no demons would be able to get out again, ever?" That definitely sounded good to her. As for heaven... "And no angels would... were you planning to go back there for good?" Yet somehow he'd ended up human, rather than angel trapped in heaven. She wasn't certain exactly how that had happened, but it was obviously fresh in his mind, and he'd just opened up even more older, but still raw, emotional wounds. Much as she wanted to know, she was willing to wait until he was ready to tell her.
