Sam smiled at that. "Yeah, she does. I guess that's true in more than one world."
What she would have given to have her sister here, or even a male version of her sister. It wouldn't be the same, but from what she'd been hearing, it would have been enough to restore some of her sanity. Didn't solve the problem of her sister being in danger of nonexistence, of course, but the better grip that Sam had on dealing with everything, the better chance she had of finding a way to stop that from happening.
She ordered a salad for herself, because she had realized she was a little hungry, and also to keep him company. He seemed very put out about having to eat food, so she thought that maybe the act of eating with her would make him feel better about it-- as opposed to seeming like she was watching him to make sure he ate. He had gotten this far, and she was pretty sure he could handle the basic skill of using a utensil to put food in his mouth on his own. Or maybe he hadn't. If not, she wasn't going to suggest otherwise unless it became obvious.
She speared a piece of lettuce and tomato together on her fork, but then paused before lifting it to her mouth. "Well," she said. "You mentioned Famine, so I assume you had the horsewomen of the apocalypse as well-- or horsemen," she added belatedly, realizing that the genders might also be switched in that case. "We had that too. The breaking of the seals, Lucifer rising from the pit... the main thing that's different from the, um, other reality--" it really would be easier if their realities had names or designations or something-- "Is that my mother became Mikal's vessel when Deanna refused. She went into the pit with me. The other Cas said something about an Adam... which I guess is like Ada in our world? Anyway, he was Michael's vessel in the other reality, but Ada wasn't actually my mom's daughter, so I guess the bloodlines didn't work out."
She stopped there. "And, I don't know. The last thing I remember is falling into the pit with my mom, but there's stuff I don't remember. I was topside for some of it... I keep vaguely feeling like I remember things, but not quite." Like the fairies. She could swear they'd run into fairies, but that didn't make any sense, because fairies-- so far as she'd known, anyway-- didn't exist. "Any of that sound familiar to you? Other than that, it's mostly just the gender thing. I don't know how that happened exactly, but it all seems to be backwards."
