Faye was hitting a new low. All around, actually. For some reason she'd joined some stupid online dating service. She wasn't quite sure why, except for the extreme amount of loneliness she was going through. She'd been reduced to this, of all things. Though she should have put down a fake name, and address, she hadn't. It had been more than a hundred years, no one was going to think she was someone's great great great great grandmother. For a long while she hadn't gotten any responses at all. Then there was one or two.
They emailed and chatted over the internet. It was nice, because she didn't have to pretend anything. There was nothing to hide, no need for her to explain why people kept dying around her. It was just a nice, sweet conversation. That was fine with her, she didn't really need more than someone to listen to her. Eventually she sent her picture, and he sent his. Maybe that's what she shouldn't have done, she didn't quite know. He wasn't bad to look at, quite nice as far as men went. He told her that she was pretty, and wanted to get to know her better.
They'd agreed to go to a movie together. Saturday evening, there was a double horror feature. Faye didn't mind those at all. Agreeing to meet there just before the movie started, Faye showed up even earlier than before. Thankfully she had the evening off from reaping, so she wasn't thinking about anything but her date. So Faye waited, and she waited. The movie started and she waited.
He wasn't coming. Eventually there was a text saying 'Can't make it.' And that was it. Great. Stood up. On the only date she'd had in a hundred years. Though she felt like crying, she didn't. She just turned around and went inside the theater and went to get popcorn. Thankfully she'd seen both movies, so it wasn't like she was missing anything. Maybe she could even cheer herself up with a nice couple of movies.
Maybe if she was lucky, Faye would even have a reap waiting for her when she got home. She doubted it though. Clearly nothing was going her way anymore.
