You'll always be a part of me
Who: Maddie and Anthony
What: Cuteness
When: Monday evening
Where: Their home
Warnings: n/a
When he'd gotten home, Anthony had gotten himself a quick shower to wash the grime and gunk off of himself after a long day at the shop. He was loving all the hours he was getting and the money that came along with it. He worried less about being able to provide for his family now that he had a job that was paying nearly double what he'd been used to getting. He was working on a nice little nest egg which would come in handy when the babies arrived. After his shower, he and Maddie had eaten dinner and then settled on the sofa, her feet in his lap. He took off her shoes, laying them down in front of the sofa, and glanced over at her. "How are you feeling tonight?" he asked her as he gently began to massage one of her feet.
Maddie had never thought her life could be as wonderful as it was becoming. She had Tony were happy again, like when they were teenagers. She felt as if nothing in her life was bad. After a lovely dinner they were getting to relax and Maddie smiled at her husband as he began to rub her feet, which made her groan a bit in relief. "Little achy, but other than that, I feel wonderful." she said sincerely, watching him with love in her eyes. "How are you feeling?"
He smiled a little at the sound that she made and continued to gently rub her foot. "I'm fine." he assured her. "Tired from work, but I'm loving the hours. We're doing really great, Maddie. I finally feel like things are the way that they're supposed to be for us." He always felt like he should be with Maddie, he loved her and she loved him and they were meant to be together, but now things just felt even more right. He finally felt like he was a bit more deserving of her affection. He also felt a little less like he was living in a haze.
Maddie leaned her head on the couch as he worked out the pain in her feet. "I feel the same way...We're going to have a family and we finally have some good friends...Becky was here today with her daughter for tea." she said with a smile. "It was nice...Normal."
"Did you have a good time?" he questioned. For the first time in a long time, as long as he could remember actually, he wasn't worried about what Becky might have said to his wife. He wasn't worried that she'd have convinced her to run off and leave him. He didn't worry as much as he normally did and even that was liberating.
"I really did...She asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding." she said, obviously excited about it. "We have enough money so I can get a dress, right?" Maddie had nothing to do with the money in the house save for what Anthony gave her for groceries and her art supplies.
"Really?" he said. That was both a surprise and welcome news. "Of course you can get a dress, Maddie." he added. "Sounds like you two are becoming good friends. I'm glad." She deserved some happiness after the mess he'd put her through for the last few years.
Se leaned over, giving her husband a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you....She also mentioned maybe we could think about...renewing our vows. Have a proper wedding. After the babies of course and once things are more settled but...I like the idea." she said softly, biting her lower lip almost waiting for the explosion of temper.
He smiled at the girl, though there was some sadness to the smile with the way she was looking like she was about to be hit for the suggestion. "I like the idea too." he told her. "You deserve a proper wedding and you should have gotten it when we got married, but I think that sounds like a great idea." he assured her, releasing her feet and motioning for her to come closer to him. "You plan out your dream wedding, baby. I'll make it happen."
Maddie stared at him for a moment, barely believing he had said yes. She eagerly moved into his hold and gave him a deep kiss. "Thank you." she whispered softly against his lips, tears of joy in her eyes. He was really getting better...She thanked God for it and thought to herself perhaps it was time to go back to church.
He kissed her back, but when she pulled back, he lifted his hands to wipe her tears away and shook his head. "You don't have to thank me for giving you something that you deserved to have already." he told her. "You're my wife and I want to make up for lost time because I've been doing everything wrong. You deserve this. More than this really, but if this makes you happy, I'm gonna make it happen."
"I want you happy too." she said firmly. "You just name anything." Maddie lived to make him happy, always had. He was doing so much for her and she wanted to do the same.
"You make me happy." he told her. "You always have, even when I didn't act like it. It's my turn to make you happy though because seeing you happy makes me happy, baby." he promised her, gently brushing her hair back behind her ear. "So, when do you want our wedding?"
She smiled at him. "After the babies are born and I'm not huge." she said then laughed, rubbing her rapidly growing belly.
"You'll still be beautiful." he told her. "Baby belly and all." It was a fact. He had no doubts that she'd be even more adorable when the babies were growing even faster. Which reminded him that she needed to be putting on weight. "Did you get enough to eat tonight?" he asked her.
She let out a sigh. "I'm trying." she said, knowing he worried about her weight even more than Dr. Berkowitz. "It's hard to keep everything down...Maybe some ice cream?" Dairy seemed to be something her children enjoyed and kept.
"I think ice cream is exactly what you need." he told her. "So do we have any in the fridge or should I run out to dairy queen or something?" he asked, prepared to run to the kitchen or down the road if she wanted him to.
"There's a pint of Chunky Monkey in the freezer." she said, which was her favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor of them all. Since becoming pregnant, she easily went through half a dozen pints a week.
"Then that's what you'll get." he said. Carefully he shifted away from her long enough to get up from the sofa and head into the kitchen for the ice cream. He didn't bother with bowls and instead just grabbed a couple of spoons before returning to his wife and settling in beside her again. It was nice to do something as simple as eat ice cream together. Simplicity was so much more important than he'd ever realized and he intended to bask in every single second he was granted.
