I will try
who: Anthony and Maddie
what: Home time
when: Friday Evening
where: Their Home
warning: N/A
Maddie was feeling rather weak that day. Since the news they were having twins, she had been even more careful with herself. She took a lot of breaks when doing housework now and dinners had become a bit simpler in fare. She just didn't have the energy to spend hours in the kitchen like she used to. As it was dinner that night was going to be ordered. Maddie had been much too tired to cook.
Currently the pregnant woman was curled up on the couch, reading one of the pregnancy books Dr. Berkowitz had recommended. She was learning everything she could, taking her vitamins, eating properly. Anthony was looking after her as well, which made Maddie very happy. She wasn't used to him being so attentive as kindly as he was, but she loved it. She was even starting to not instinctively flinch when he went to touch her. All in all, as stressful as the situation was, Maddie was happy.
Anthony was doing well with the new job and his combination of therapy and the right medication. It also helped to know they were having not one but two babies. Knowing his wife was pregnant and they had two children on the way was like an extra bit of medication on it's own. He didn't want to hurt Maddie and in reality he just wanted to spend every second he could repairing the damage he'd already done to the girl. When he arrived home that night, he'd brought a newspaper with him and as he shrugged out of his jacket, he flashed a smile to his wife as she lay on the couch with that pregnancy book. "Hey, baby." he murmured, making his way across the room to her and settling down at the end of the couch where her feet were, immediately pulling them into his lap as he sat the newspaper down on the coffee table. "So, I was thinking that we need to start shopping around for a bigger place."
Maddie perked up the moment her husband walked into the house. She smiled at him and while she would normally jump up to greet him, she felt a little too weak to do that today. "Hey, Tony." she said as he sat and put her slightly swollen feet into his lap. She set her book aside and sat up a bit as he set down the paper and informed her they needed to start looking for a bigger place. "Honey...can we afford a bigger place right now?" she asked softly, biting her lower lip. Such a statement before would of sent him into a rage. While they had gotten so much better, Maddie still felt that fear of upsetting him. She carefully stayed in tune with his emotions.
"Well that's why we're going to shop around." he told her. "I was doing alright before at the old shop, but I'm getting awesome hours at my new job and Colin's always gonna need me around the full moons and the pay is way better. Plus if we find something closer to work then there'll be less gas money wasted commuting." he shrugged. "I think we can swing it. And we don't have to upgrade too much, I just want the babies to have their own room, ya know? Not a makeshift hole in the wall. They deserve better than that and I plan on providing it." The last thing he wanted was for their to be cribs in the living room and diapers on the dining room table.
She could fell his emotions and she felt determination, not anger. It made her smile. "Alright. Our credit is still good so I think we could manage a good mortgage rate." she said as she picked up the paper and opened it to the real estate section. "We'll need three bedrooms. If the babies are of a different gender once they get older they'll need separate rooms." she said as her eyes flicked over the listings.
"We could maybe even swing a lower or close enough payment to what we've got now. And we'd be buying something for our future, something that would be ours." Anthony wanted to give her, and their children, everything that he had neglected thus far in their lives together. She was his wife and he'd spent most of their marriage making her miserable. He didn't want to do that any longer.
Maddie's heart soared, even though she could feel the guilt plaguing him. She set the paper aside and turned his face to hers as she shifted to be close to him. "Tony, we're going to find a lovely home and we're really going to start out life. The life we deserve and want." she said softly, leaning in to give him a soft kiss.
He kissed her back and gave her a gentle little smile, brushing his fingers through her hair and tucking it behind her ear. "That's what I plan on doing." he told her. "So what do you want for dinner, gorgeous?" he questioned.
She snuggled against him, her hand rubbing her belly. She did that a lot now, just unconsciously. "Well, I can't have Chinese food, or seafood....so I think that leaves pizza." she said with a sad smile. Her diet had become very restricted and for someone who loved to cook as much as she did, it was frustrating.
"Well pizza it is then." he told her. "With some delicious breadsticks and extra cheese." he smiled, leaning in for one more kiss. "Gotta get you fattened up, sugar." he told her. "You know what the doctor said." She was far too tiny even if she wasn't pregnant. Now that she was, the pounds needed to start going up. And soon.
Maddie sighed a little. She still had trouble eating and keeping food down. Her morning sickness seemed to last all day. "Alright." she said, leaning her head on his shoulder. "Hey, can we get sausage on our pizza?" Never once had Maddie asked for a topping on her pizza. She had been eating pizza plain forever. Pregnancy was certainly giving her odd tastes.
He chuckled a little at her request, but it was a good sign. Her wanting food, even if it was just adding a topping to their pizza, was better than her not wanting anything at all. "Course we can." he told her. "I'll send the order in and then I can get a shower before I completely stink up the house." he chuckled, standing up and giving her one more little kiss before pulling his phone out to call in their pizza order.
"Thank you." she said and moved so she could lay back on the couch. Her coloring was a little off. She looked pallid and sick. Maddie had never looked one hundred percent, but she was getting worse. "Before you shower can I have a glass of milk, please?" she asked softly. It was rare of her to ask him to do anything for her, even with the doctor's insistent she take it easy.
He saw the way she looked and it made him nervous for her safety and for their children. "Yeah, babe." he said, not even waiting a moment before heading for the kitchen. He washed his hands and got her that glass of milk she wanted and brought it back to her. "You okay?" he questioned. "You look a little weaker than you did this morning." And that was saying something. "Should I call the doctor?"
Maddie gave him a little smile as he handed her the milk and she took a sip. "I'm ok." she said softly. "Just feeling a bit like an overcooked noodle is all." she said, trying to reassure him. "Dr. Berkowitz said I'd be tired."
"You're more tired because you don't weigh enough." he told her, obviously still worrying but trying to keep it back so as to not make her feel everything he felt. "Lots more eating is what you need to do."
She gave him a soft smile and reached out to gently take his hand. "I'll do my best, you know that." she said. "Thank you for worrying and trying not to worry at the same time." She could feel the emotions in him so easily. Her bond to him was deep and she could never dream of being without him.
Tony gave her fingers a gentle squeeze and let out a sigh. "I just want you to be okay is all." he told her. "Need anything else before I grab that shower, babe?" he asked her as he leaned over to kiss her forehead.
Maddie relaxed, her eyes sliding closed as he kissed her forehead. "No, I'm fine. A little nap before dinner gets here will help." she said. "Go enjoy your shower. I love you."
"I love you too." he told her, giving her a gentle kiss before heading for their bathroom. He stopped to glance back at her once more and gave a little smile. He'd only be a few minutes, but even that seemed too long to be away from her right then. Tony Hall had definitely rounded a corner in his life and it was about damn time as far as he was concerned.
