Domesticated who: Kavin & Kora what Domestication when: Wednesday Evening where: Kavin & Kora’s Home warnings: N/A
Kora smiled as the sizzle and pop of the oil was exactly what it needed to be as she put in the chicken. She was finally settled into Kavin’s home, her kinda sorta boyfriend. She wasn’t really sure of the status of their relationship, but sharing a bed (even if they just slept) and kissing a lot was what couples did, wasn’t it? She had never dated anyone, so she didn’t really know the parameters.
One thing she did know was cooking. While Kavin was at work she had taken it upon herself to go food shopping. His kitchen was badly stocked with junk food and Kora wanted to do something nice for him. She had spent quite a bit, but it had been worth it. Now they had a fully stocked kitchen and tonight was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and broccoli with cheese. The smells of yummy food cooking filled the house as she set the chicken to fry and began peeling potatoes. No boxed mashed would do, no how. When this werewolf cooked, she made everything from scratch.
When Kavin came home, he wasn’t expected the tantalizing smells that wafted through the house from the kitchen. His stomach growled audibly as he hung up his keys and discarded his shoes by the door, tucking his socks inside them. “Kora, I’m home.” he said as his feet - or perhaps his nose - guided him towards the kitchen. Once there he couldn’t help but smile at her. “You didn’t have to go through all this trouble.” he told her. “But my stomach certainly appreciates it.”
Kora heard Kavin come in but the chicken had to be turned so she set about doing that. She glanced to him as he came in and gave him a smile before turning her attention back to the chicken as not to burn herself with the oil. ”Welcome home.” she thought to him warmly. ”And it’s not trouble at all. I enjoy cooking.” The potatoes were ready to be mashed and she added two full sticks of butter, milk, and a bit of salt and pepper before turning on the mixer. ”Dinner will be ready in about ten minutes.”
He smiled as he walked over to her and slipped his arms around her waist. “Well thank you all the same.” he murmured, pressing his lips against her neck in a gentle kiss. “Smells delicious.” He knew the only home cooked meals he got any more were when he went to his parents’ house for dinner. But those times were few and far between. “How was your day?”
Kora leaned back against him as he slid his arms around her waist, her heart leaping. She had seen her parents in the same position, her mama working on the stove and her daddy holding her just like this. She beamed as a small shiver ran through her as his lips on her neck. ”It was fine. I went food shopping. Your cabinets and fridge were appalling, you know.”
“What can I say?” he told her. “I was a bachelor who couldn’t barely get by without a tv dinner.” he reminded the girl. “But I appreciate you going shopping, and cooking. Keep it up and I’ll never let you leave.” he warned her. Of course he doubted he’d want her to leave even if she never cooked or went shopping.
She smiled as she turned off the mixer. Her potatoes were perfect, of course. The chicken was just about finished as well. Moving just enough to get the chicken onto the rack to drain a bit, but so she was still in his arms, Kora managed to get everything ready to serve without moving from Kavin’s hold. ”Just need to pull the broccolli from the oven in about 6 minutes.”
He smiled at her, reluctantly releasing her from his grip only enough to turn her so he could steal a little kiss from her mouth. “You’re pretty amazing.” he murmured, a little smile on his lips. “Have I told you that today?”
A blush came to her cheeks and she waved him off, pointing to the table. When he kissed her or complimented her, Kora became a bit flustered and couldn’t make a coherent thought to communicate with. She busied herself with serving of plates and soon they were sitting at the table with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and broccoli with cheese. ”I hope you like it.” she thought as she sat down.
He settled in his chair beside her and let his eyes wander over the plate she sat before him. His stomach growled in anticipation and he smiled at the girl. “If my sense of smell is any indication, I’m going to love it.” he told her as he lifted his fork.
Kora smiled to him before she began to eat her own meal. Of course the chicken was perfectly juicy, the potatoes were creamy, and the broccoli with cheese was well, cheesy. She had worked really hard, wanting the first meal she cooked him to be perfect.
“This is delicious.” he murmured after taking a bite of the chicken first. His mother was a decent cook, but she certainly didn’t have anything on Kora. The girl definitely knew her way around a kitchen. “So good.”
Kora’s eyes danced with happiness. She was very pleased he liked his cooking and in her head a menu for the week began to form. She started classes soon, but she would still have plenty of time to cook.
He caught bits and pieces of that menu and his eyes flicked to catch hers. “You’re going to spoil me.” he told her. “Or fatten me up. Probably both.” Not that he particularly minded, however. Having a good home cooked meal after work certainly was a nice thing to come home to. Besides Kora of course.
She grinned at him, her eyes dancing. ”You let me into your home. It’s the least I can do...And I like cooking for you.” Kora had enjoyed her simple life on the farm. She felt like she was bringing a piece of it to him with her cooking.
“Well I really appreciate it.” he murmured. Taking a few more bites, he lost himself in the delicious dinner. He didn’t talk much really, too busy stuffing his face.
Kora was happy he enjoyed the meal and enjoyed her own, eating neatly but swiftly. Her werewolf metabolism made her eat twice as much as a normal human but even after her large share and his, there were still plenty of leftovers. ”I picked up some pastries at a little bakery I found today.” she thought to him. ”Maybe after the food settles we can have dessert.”
“Sounds good to me.” he smiled. “How bout we just cuddle up til then?” he asked her as he got up from the table and started to clear away the dishes that had accumulated. “Since you cooked, I’ll do dishes.” he offered.
She smiled up at him as he began to clear the plates. Life was falling into a nice, domestic pattern, one of which Kora enjoyed. ”Cuddling sounds perfect.” She left the dishes to him and went into the living room. The werewolf flopped on the couch and picked up the remote, flipping through channels until she found a documentary about wolves on Discovery channel.
It didn’t take very long for him to finish up the dishes. With just the two of them there it was never a big mess that needed attended to. When he got to the living room, he couldn’t help but grin a little at the girl and the documentary she’d chosen. Settling down beside her, he slipped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her a little closer to him.
This was her favorite place to be, wrapped up in Kavin. Kora snuggled against him, her arm going around him as she nestled in the crook of his shoulder. This was how they were at night, just curled up on the couch, watching something or other, enjoying one another’s company. It was perfect.
Perfect was certainly a word that he’d use to describe the way that she made him feel. He was always so stressed out most of the time, his brain so full of other people’s thoughts that he scarcely had room for his own. With Kora, it wasn’t like that. She was his escape. An oasis that he wanted to stay in forever. He hoped that she felt even a fraction of what he felt with her when she was with him.
