You know how I feel about loose ends
Who: Antoinette & Rufus
Where: Rufus’ place
When: Tuesday Afternoon
What: A glimpse into what's going on with Annie
Warnings: Language, some mild violence.
Annie woke up in a not so good mood, not knowing if she had just taken a little bit of a nap or if she had slept longer than she wanted. The only thing that she knew was that she had the hugest headache ever, and she was feeling sick to her stomach. That just brought yet another frown to her face, she’d left her brother’s. With Rufus. Oh god. Hopefully he had seen the note by now. Surely he would have tried to find her when she didn’t text or show her face, right? Especially after she had gotten shot during the full moon? Or maybe Elias found it, please let him have found the note. Someone.
It didn’t matter, her thoughts at the moment, as she had to make a beeline to somewhere because she was going to be sick. Unfortunately she didn’t know where the bathroom was, as she didn’t pay much attention when she had first got here, so the nearest trash bin she saw had to do. After she was done making use of the bin, she curled up on the floor, it was cooler and felt really nice against her skin at the moment. “If you’re trying to kill me I’d rather you not go the slow and painful route!” she yelled loudly, not knowing if Rufus was even there, before she had to grab her head at the sudden pounding caused from her shout, groaning in pain.
Rufus had spent most of that morning working. He wasn’t exactly one that got much sleep, especially when there was work to be done and deals to be made. He’d hooked himself up with a couple of local pimps and pretty much paid them off to leave town, having himself taking over for the time being. It wasn’t too hard to build back up a detail in a town like this. It was about two in the afternoon when he heard the sounds of someone getting sick from the spare room. Ah, his sleeping beauty was awake.
Putting a few files in his desk, get got up, grabbing a wet washcloth on his way in, “You always do like making a mess, don’t you?”
Now not saying that Rufus was a heartless bastard, because lord knows he was when he wanted to be, but he did have his moments. Kneeling down beside her, he pulled Annie up into a sitting position, smoothing the cool washcloth over her face and wiping up anything she’d missed when cleaning herself. “You didn’t drink any water the other night. You’re probably dehydrated.”
Annie groaned when she heard him come into the room, and then again when he spoke. “You talk too loud.” she murmured, though not putting up too much of a fight when he touched her with the cool washcloth. Because that felt really good actually. “Fine .. I’ll drink some damn water.” she then snapped out, because she still wasn’t happy that she was even in this position, here with Rufus. She was about to ask for something to take care of the headache, but she didn’t trust the man as far as she could throw him. And she’d tried so hard so far to kick her little drug habit. “Told you I’m no fun, should find yourself another plaything, Rufus.”
“You should stop complaining. Your hangover would go away easier.” What Annie had always failed to realize was that they were mated. At least in the sense that he understood, and she belonged to him. It was how things just were. Yes, he let her off on a long loose leash, but he’d always known where she was, what she’d been doing. Shaking his head, he pulled her back up onto the bed, “Are you going to throw up more?”
She would have been quick to point out that to her, they weren’t mated, she’d never mated with him in the sense that were’s mated. No, that she was struggling not to do with her current boyfriend. “No, I’m not going to throw up anymore.” she told him, before glancing over at him. This was the Rufus that she didn’t mind being around, the one that seemed sometimes to actually care. And it was already starting to mess with her head a little bit, like falling back into old bad habits. “Can’t be a hangover, haven’t taken anything. Maybe I’m getting the flu or something.” she spoke, mainly to herself. “I’m gonna go get that glass of water now.” she told him, making to try and move off the bed, so she could at least get away from him.
“Or maybe you need to take something.” Rufus wasn’t looking at her when he spoke, but he was pretty sure the smirk on his face was evident in his words. “There’s tylenol in the cabinet in the bathroom if you need it.” Moving back to his office, Rufus pulled out a phone from the top drawer of his desk, sending a text to a contact, calling out to Annie, “So your brother’s a cop, huh?”
“Is it actually tylenol or is it one of your tricks, Rufus?” she asked him, her voice just having a bit of annoyance to it before she was making her way to try and find this bathroom he spoke of. Not caring if she had to drink the water from the tap, plus she could rinse her mouth out. She was sipping from a cup that was in the restroom, one of those that were conveniently there when you needed to rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth. And then he asked that question, and she dropped the cup, the sound of the plastic cup hitting the tiles. “Shit. And it doesn’t matter what my brother is, I told you to leave him out of things.” she snapped at him quite loudly, just causing her head to throb a little bit more. Picking the cup up off the floor and then running it under the water before filling it up again, now taking the time to look for that tylenol that he had mentioned before and taking a couple of them.
“It matters to me if he starts poking his nose in my business. Or if you tip him off.” Sending another few texts, he made his way down the hall, leaning in the door frame to the bathroom. “I’ll do everything I can to have my associates lead him away in a different direction but we’re going to have a problem if he starts looking at me. A big one.” Sighing, he walked over, pulling her out of the bathroom, “Go lay down and I’ll get you a bath going, I’m not much of a conversationalist today, I’ve been getting visa’s for a few people all morning. You remember Rodrigo? He’ll be in town my the end of the month.”
“Why would he poke his nose in your business?” she questioned before she could stop herself. But then again, she knew her brother, and he very well would. This was going to end badly, and she knew it. She stiffened when he touched her and even more so at the name he dropped. “Well, just leave me out of whatever you two cook up. I don’t want any part in that, those days are behind me. Just like I wish you’d leave me alone too.” she told him before yanking herself away from him, but going back into the room she had been in, and sitting at the foot of the bed.
He didn’t move past the doorway. Rufus simply watched her levelly, “Why were you always so unhappy with me. I gave you what you obviously wanted. There were nights you begged and I delivered.” In his own mind, Rufus did his best to keep Annie happy, while making himself happy as well. “And you don’t have to worry about him, he’s not allowed in my flat.”
“Are we really getting into this?” she asked him, a little in disbelief. “You’re creepy Rufus, you’re like scary creepy. Plus, I’ve found someone whose a thousand times the man you’d ever be. Why can’t you just leave me alone? I’d leave and then you’d find me, that’s always been the game with you. But for what end, why do you waste your time?” she asked him, before biting down on her lower lip. Probably shouldn’t have mentioned the boyfriend. “Only reason I’m here is because you would hurt those I actually care about.”
And that’s all it really took. Disregarding most of what she said, Rufus moved over, slamming Annie up against the wall, holding her by her neck with little trouble. “Who is he? And don’t bullshit me because I will get it out of you. You’re mine, you don’t belong to anyone else, and I really doubt this being would do for you what I could do.” His voice hissed with venom, fingers pressing harder into her neck.
Her eyes went wide with a little bit of fear as she was slammed against the wall, her hands coming up to dig her nails into his hand to try and pry it away from her neck. When his fingers pressed a little harder, it just caused her to gasp a little, trying to get a little more air than what was being allowed. She had to come up with something quick, to placate him, and to keep Elias safe. “No one Rufus, just some random guy I picked up at a bar and fucked, that’s all. I probably wont ever see him again.” It was a lie, but she’d become good at lying over the years.
“I’ll make sure of that.” Rufus pushed her off, letting her slide down the wall as he pushed back and out of the room, “And your brother be smart, I’ll slit his throat without a second thought if he tries anything. You might want to wise him up.” Pausing in the hallway, something clicked in Rufus’ mind, a grin spreading across his lips, “He doesn’t know...does he? About us....about what you did for those years in Italy?”
Once her throat was released she was gulping for air, and she slid the rest of the way down the wall, so she could sit on the floor with her back pressed against it. She found herself shaking her head, even if it was just the start of another lie. “No, he doesn’t know anything. I’ve kept you my secret.” she told him, hoping it was the answer that he wanted to hear. Even if it was a lie, masked by the deadpan and now raspy voice she had from her emotions and her throat having been held. “For all he knows I’m off gallivanting around town, wouldn’t be the first time I didn’t show up for a couple of days. At least I left a note this time.” A partial truth, but it was a little easier to give than the full blow lie.
“You know how I feel about loose ends, Nette. Get dressed. You’re going home tomorrow for a few days.” There was planning that needed to be done, and he’d be doing his best not to have anything done in front of Annie. The last thing he wanted to do was start killing off people when he’d barely been settled in a few weeks.
“I know Rufus, but there aren’t any loose ends here.” she told him, though knew it was falling on deaf ears. She watched him leave the room, and not bothering to get dressed in something more than the clothes she was in, because she wasn’t going to be leaving for home until tomorrow, she went and shut the door to the bedroom, locking the door behind her and crawling back into the bed. It wasn’t like she’d unpacked the duffel bag or anything, so everything was already ready.
