who: Kora, Dante, and Antoinette what: Were's out on the full and a mysterious hunter when: Monday Night where: Woods outside of Toronto warnings: Shooting
Kora put her nose to the ground, sniffling for the rabbit she had been chasing. The little bugger had managed to lose the arctic wolf and she was intent on finding it again for dinner. Tot he right of her she heard a twig snap. Her ears went up and she picked her nose up from the ground, raising her nose to sniff the air. Whatever it was was downwind of her. Kora didn't fear much in the forest. She was a predator and there were few things that could hurt her.
But when she heard the cock of a rifle, she knew there was someone, a human someone, hunting in these woods. She took off and a shot sounded. She felt a burn in her right shoulder but the arctic werewolf kept running. Why was someone shooting at her? These part of the forest was a game reserve. It was supposed to be safe. Could it be a poacher? Or something more malicious.
Kora wasn't paying attention to where she was running as she heard the brush crashing a ways behind her. She was of course faster than any human could hope to be, but if this hunter had a rifle with a scope, she had to put as much distance between her and the hunter has possible. She crashed through some brush and almost barreled into something. Kora didn't stop, her tail flicking the nose of whatever animal she had dashed past. Her only goal was to lose the hunter and go home.
Dante was out with Antoinette in the very same woods enjoying what he figured would be a peaceful run. But when the Arctic wolf nearly bowled him over and took off running past him, he was confused enough that he just stood there looking off in the direction the creature had ran, sniffing a bit to see if he could maybe trail her to wherever she'd gone. He was just about to turn and signal to Antoinette that he wanted to follow the wolf to see what was wrong, he felt a sharp pain in his arm about midway between his shoulder and elbow. Being a police officer, being shot was a hazard of the job so Dante knew immediately what had happened even before he made that painful sounding snarly noise.
He tried to turn to warn Antoinette in some fashion, but it was pretty hard to navigate immediately after being shot so about one step was all he made before he limped to a fall right into the brush, eyes catching sight of Annie as she came through some trees in his direction. He made a weak noise in effort to stop her as he pushed up with his legs to try and stand once more.
Antoinette was on the alert when she heard the noise, already running toward where her brother was. The first thing that hit her was the smell of the blood, and that was before she saw it in a startling contrast to the fur of her brother. A low growl sounded from her as her ears pinned back. She was really not a happy were at the moment. For the briefest of moments, she locked eyes with her brother before she turned and started racing toward the sound that had happened before .. toward the sound of the gunfire.
She didn’t get very far before she paused, a moment of stupidity while she was sniffing the air, trying to figure out where the hunter might be in the woods. She felt the pain before anything registered to her, before she even let it dawn on her that she heard the next gunfire. The pain in her shoulder was spreading down her front leg, a howling of a large cat in pain before she retreated with an obvious limp. She had to get back to her brother, even if her senses right now were blinded by the shock of getting shot and the awkwardness that the running back was causing her.
Dante whimpered when he heard the shot because he couldn't stop it and as he looked at his sister, his baby sister, heading back towards him with an obvious limp, he decided that it was time to get the fuck out of the woods. Managing to get up again, with a little effort, he jerked his head in the opposite direction of the gunfire. They couldn't attack whoever shot them if they were wounded. Getting back to the house as quickly as possible was his goal and he'd be damned if he let anything else happen to his sister.
When she got to where her brother was, she paused, trying to turn her head enough to be able to lick at the wound. But finding that with where she had been shot at, she wasn’t able to, and for some reason this annoyed her more than getting shot in the first place. The fact that she couldn’t do something as simple as groom herself with out causing her vision to go all blurry. Annie gave up after a moment, and started following her brother, though her movements were definitely slower than she would have liked.
Their movements might have been slow, but thankfully they got out of the woods without any more of an encounter with the faceless shooter. Now if they could just get back to their home without being run over by a car or something. Dante shook his head and drew in a breath and started out in the direction of home, carefully watching Antoinette with every movement he made. They had to find someone who could clean them up and Dante was fairly certain that Ophelia would still be curled up in his bed so that was his intended destination. Once he was patched up, he could figure out what to do next. His police brain already working to put the pieces of the puzzle together. The losing blood part was affecting that though and so he pushed his thoughts aside and concentrated only on getting home. Getting home fast.
