Loyalty
Who: Samuel and Elizabeth
What: Coming clean
When: Friday Evening, not long after dark
Where: The palace
Warnings: None
Samuel had been dreading this moment since Quinn first told him of her vision. He had tried to pretend that there was no way that this blonde woman she'd seen kill a man was his sister, but Samuel knew there was no denying it. Viola was somewhere in town or at least she had been long enough to kill some innocent man and leave him in the street. The Queen had to know and if she found out that he knew and he hadn't confessed his knowledge to her, it would be his head on the line. No matter how much he might have wanted to protect his sister, even after all of these years, there really wasn't a way to protect her and keep himself safe as well. And he had Quinn to be concerned about on top of it all.
So he approached Elizabeth's office with a cautious nature and gently knocked on it. Drawing in a pretty much unneeded breath, he entered when she permitted him to and closed the door behind him. "Your majesty." he said as he gave her a little bow. "I wish we were meeting under more pleasant circumstances but I have acquired some knowledge that I believe is best dealt with by you and your court."
Elizabeth had been surprised when Samuel had requested an audience with her. He was a quiet vampire who kept to himself, which she didn't mind. He paid his dues to her for his business and caused no trouble. She was intrigued and when he entered, she looked at him expectantly. "It must be something indeed for you to come to me." she said softly, standing and coming out from behind her desk. She was in one of her more royal gowns, looking much like the queen she claimed to be.
Samuel nodded a little before drawing in a little breath and letting his eyes meet hers. "I suppose that there is call for a little back story before I can explain everything that caused me to come to you." he said. "Before I was turned I had a sister, Viola. We ran away from home and were followed by a pair of vampires. They turned us and separated us." he explained. "I haven't seen my sister since that night and I have no clue as to what she's been doing from that point until now. At least until the other day." Now came the hard part. "You see I have a girl under my care, a clairvoyant. She had a vision of my sister, here in Toronto. In the vision she killed some human and left him lying in the street. I'm nearly positive that it's my sister despite not having contact with her in decades. I don't really know what to do." he admitted, looking at her hopefully. Perhaps she'd have some sort of words of wisdom to guide him to the right decision. Maybe she'd help his sister, maybe she'd bring them together, but at the same time, he wasn't sure he wanted to be near Viola if she was capable of such things.
Elizabeth listened to him speak without letting her face betray any of her thoughts. She had heard about the dead human, which had been cleaned up before the human authorities had become involved. She already had people out searching for the vampire responsible. Now it seemed she had an identity. "You know my rules, Samuel." she said softly. "I do not tolerate such things within my city." She wanted to make it perfectly clear to him she was displeased. "Of course, I understand loyalty to family and to one's sovereign. It must of been hard to you, to come to me, but I do value such loyalty." She went to him and gently touched his cheek. "I do wish your sister would come to me as she should and perhaps we can overlook this little misunderstanding with her, if she can comply with my wishes." She didn't wish to deprive him of his sister once more as he was a loyal subject, but there would be conditions. "It she contacts you, bring her to me. If not, she will be found soon enough."
Well, that was better than what he thought might happen. He'd practically convinced himself that the queen would be out looking for Viola's head on a silver platter. "Yes, your majesty." he said with a little nod. "Thus far she hasn't, but I haven't really been out looking for her. I was honestly more startled by the fact that she was still alive than anything else." He hoped, for Viola's sake, that the death of the human had simply been because she didn't know the rules that the Queen had put into effect. "If she contacts me, I'll bring her here." he assured her.
The queen was not completely heartless and in truth, human lives meant little to her. She just preferred to keep the humans out of her business and a lack of dead bodies certainly helped that. Of course, there were accidents. "Thank you for coming to me Samuel." she said. "You are dismissed." She had the information she needed now to bring in this vampire girl. She would see this Viola's intentions before passing judgement.
Bowing once more, Samuel exited the queen's office and headed in the direction of leaving the palace. It had gone much better than he'd expected and he looked forward to relaying the information to Quinn. And then perhaps he would figure out some way to track down Viola before the guards at the palace did.
