Who: Landon & Veronika
What: Running into each other & then a date!
Where: Farmer’s Market near where Landon works. Then where Veronika lives
When: Thursday Afternoon & then evening
Warnings: Cuteness :D
So far the day hadn’t been the greatest, considering Veronika had to deal with some very rambunctious preschoolers, and the thunderstorms that seemed to be taking over the day didn’t really help any. Thankfully preschool usually only lasted half the day, and by the time the storms seemed to be letting up she was seeing the last of the kids go with their parents. Which just left her to clean up the classroom and to try and look like an adult rather than a walking art project. Not that Ronnie really minded most of the time.
This time however, she was planning on going to the Farmer’s Market just outside of Toronto, to get some fresh products for what she’d end up making for dinner. With probably plenty of leftovers considering most of the time her brother never showed up home, because of his work, even if Veronika still made sure there was enough for him - just in case. But it wasn’t the produce that had her looking in the mirror in her car before she got out, it was someone she was hoping to see, or at least catch glimpses of while she was shopping. A smile formed on her lips at the possibility as she started putting some things in a basket to purchase.
Landon didn't have to work that day but, as he often did, he showed up at the farmer's market anyway. He didn't have stables to attend to or anything at the farmer's market to really take care of either, but hey, maybe he could find some nice vegetables to go with dinner. He wasn't expecting to see the pretty pre-school teacher there. When he did though, he couldn't wipe the grin off his face. She'd been to Riverdale multiple times for a field trip here and there and of course the planning period and every time he saw her she was bright and bubbly and so pretty she reminded him of a flower. Needless to say, he'd developed a bit of a crush on the girl and admired her from afar.
Ambling up to her, he tipped his hat and gave her a smile. "Hey there, Miss Veronika. Fancy meeting you here."
Veronika had noticed him coming over, how could she not? She had been sneaking glances whenever she could get the chance. And even though her attention seemed to be on some of the wide array of products, selecting some of the leafy greens to put in the basket when she heard his voice. She took in a deep breath before she turned her head towards him, the smile that was usually on her lips just a little bit wider, “Last time I was here I bought some of these,” She started motioning slightly to the stall with the veggies, “I couldn’t resist, I had to come back.” she admitted, even though it wasn’t just the food that brought her there, the thought bringing a blush to her cheeks, “I think you made an impression, the kids have been begging to come back to see the animals.” That seemed like a safe topic of conversation, right?
He continued to smile at her as he listened to her speak. How someone could have a voice as light as air was beyond him but somehow she did. Damn her for being so enchanting. "Well I hope you'll consider coming back to see us." he said with a decided little nod. Of course he was hoping she'd come back to see more than just the animals, but he hadn't gotten up the courage to say as much just yet. "How are you today?" he questioned. "Aside from partaking in our lovely selection of vegetables."
Oh goodness, did he have to have such a nice smile? It was making Veronika have a little trouble concentrating on anything else, “Oh I’m sure that I will, you know because the kids love it so much. I think I might come to arrange something for within the next couple of weeks, we’ve been reading a little from Charlotte’s Web, and another trip would tie in wonderfully.” She spoke, the adoration she had for her students evident in the way she was speaking. Though she did tilt her head a bit, adjusting the basket she was holding, a little laugh escaping her. “I’m doing really well, glad the weather cleared a bit, I hope the sun comes out soon. What about you, how are you doing?” She asked, returning the question. Small talk was good, at least it was giving her a chance to talk to him.
"Well just let us know when you're wanting to come up and I'm sure we can squeeze you in." he smiled. "Maybe I'll even be lucky enough to be your tour guide." Yeah, he was definitely going to have to make that happen. Spend the whole day with the pretty teacher? Heck yeah. "I hear the sun'll be shinin' soon enough. Maybe we'll keep pretty days for a while and get rid of some of this rain. It's not so bad though. Aside from being stuck inside and all." he rambled. Damn if he wasn't making an ass of himself.
Another laugh bubbled out of her, she couldn’t help it, normally she was just a happy person, and now she was being a bashful happy person. Which just made this even more awkward for her. “The tour guide, hm? Well, I’ll have to see if I can arrange that.” She spoke with an even bigger smile. Right, and that didn’t sound completely idiotic? Oh goodness, what was she doing, trying to flirt? Yea, pretty much. She nodded when the talk went back to the weather, safe topic, which was a good thing. “Try having twenty really hyper kids stuck in a classroom, all wanting to go out on the playground even in the rain.” She pointed out with a little shake of her head, not that she had truly minded, the kids got some art projects done, which only meant that Veronika probably had some sort of remnants from the crafts on her person somewhere, she just hadn’t seen where yet.
"I feel for you there, Miss." he said. He knew that he had a time just dealing with his four younger sisters when he was at home as a child. Hell, even as a teenager and sometimes even now having the four of them together at once was decidedly challenging. "You've really got to be a master at your craft to be able to handle a bunch of rambunctious little ones wanderin' around all bored and ready to get out."
She was laughing again, pretty much grinning from ear to ear, “It’s all about the art of distraction, really. Bring out the paint, glitter, markers, and crayons. And all of a sudden you have a mostly happy class.” She gave a little bit of a shrug before putting a few of the squash she saw into the basket. “Plus it helps that I love kids.” She tilted her head to look up at him again. “Though it must be worse for you, having to work out in the storms, I’m sure the animals need the attention even if it is raining buckets.” Sure she was talking to him, and looking at him. But mentally she was trying to remind herself not to let herself want to get attached, it wasn’t as if the guy had put any moves on her in the times they’ve met, or even asked her out for a cup of coffee. Probably wasn’t interested, or had a girlfriend … something. And now she was trying to rationalize. Oh boy, how bad did she have it for this guy?
He smiled. "Well I'm sure you've got a way with them." he told her. "You seem to keep their attention pretty well every time I've seen you at the farm." he added. "Do you have any little ones of your own?" he questioned. Perhaps it was his own way of seeing if she had a boyfriend or husband to go along with those babies she might have back home. "I don't mind tendin' the animals when it's rainin'. I'd much rather be outside than cooped up indoors if I can help it. Guess I've always been the sort to spend more time in the field or pasture than in the house doin' nothin'." he shrugged.
“It isn’t that hard, to keep their attention most of the time.” She admitted giving a little shrug, “Just have to keep their interest, if you let them get bored, then you’re done for.” Another laugh before a little look of surprise and the shake of her head. “No, none of my own.” She answered, thinking that she’d have to actually be in a relationship in order for even the chance, as she wasn’t the type of woman to go around and have accidents happen. She almost asked the question toward him, but paused herself as she didn’t think that it was any of her business. She was laughing again with a slight nod, “I’m the same way, I’d rather be busy doing something than just sitting around.” It felt nice to know they had somethings in common, whether that would mean anything she was hoping for was still left in question. “Have you always worked with animals on a farm?” She found herself wanting to know more about him, well she had always wanted to know more since she met him, she was just now getting around to asking.
"I could bet on that." he agreed with a little chuckle. "I can't imagine the chaos that would ensue if twenty or so little rugrats decided they didn't have anythin' better to do than torment their pretty teacher." he grinned. He shook his head a little when she said she didn't have any children of her own. "Well that's a shame." he murmured. "I think you're probably destined to have a couple of your own sooner or later. If you're that good with other people's babies, you should be great with one of your own." he said, shrugging his shoulder a little. "Guess that ain't really any of my business though. Sorry if I'm pryin' into your life, ma'am. Just statin' an opinion and all. Tend to be a little more outspoken sometimes than I should be. But yes, I have worked on a farm most of my life. My parents had a little ranch back in Texas. Worked with my dad helpin' with the animals for as long as I can remember."
It took a moment for it to sink into her head that he had just called her pretty, which just caused her to blush up a storm of her own. “They’re good kids, I doubt they’d do much tormenting.” She spoke, a little softer than she intended, but she was still in slight shock at that one little word. Which she was trying to compose herself from but probably failing miserably. Just mentally telling herself not to comment on it, and maybe he wouldn’t see how flustered she was. “I .. I wouldn’t mind having my own one day, just have to be lucky enough to find the right guy first.” She answered with a smile, as shy and bashful as it was. “Oh! You’re not prying, really it’s okay. But since you think you’ve asked something you shouldn’t have, then I return the question to you, do you have any kids of your own?” Alright so now that question was out in the open, and her second guessing on if she should have even asked or gone with her first instinct and shouldn’t have. “Texas? Wow, so you’re a bit far from home then, huh?” she commented, sneaking another look at him.
He wasn't oblivious to the way she blushed at his compliment, nor at the way she stammered when she began to speak again. But hey, she'd admitted she didn't have a boyfriend which was a nice little tidbit of information that he'd been dying to know anyway. Then she went and asked him if he had any children and he chuckled a little. "Guess I haven't found the right girl." he told her. "Because I don't have any little ones of my own either." Did that mean she was just as curious about his romantic status as he was about hers? Interesting. "Texas, yeah." he said. "And yeah, I guess so. I toured with the rodeo circuit for a while and ended up in Toronto and I guess I've got a little bit of a city boy in me too." he explained. "So I decided to stick around and I've been here ever since. So this is home now."
Veronika found herself nodding and trying to keep her outward composure, even though on the inside she was doing cartwheels in the fact that the guy just admitted he was single. Hooray for that! But then she had to come down to her senses in the fact that just because the fact he was single didn’t mean that he held any interest in her, or was even looking for someone. She put on another smile, “I’m sure you’ll find someone, Landon.” She commented, trying to be aloof about the matter. Not even sure if she was succeeding on that or not. “The rodeo? Isn’t that a bit dangerous?” she asked not really having any idea, but just figuring that it could be. Which wasn’t a bad thing, sometimes a little danger could be a good thing. If it wasn’t overly so.
He nodded a little. "It can be." he admitted. "I've got more than my fair share of scars from my rodeo days but I don't really do that much anymore. I like to think of settled down a little since then. Not as much as my mother would like me to have, but I guess the wife and children will come when they feel like it, not before then." he shrugged. He supposed eventually he'd find himself a girl but how could he if he wasn't even brave enough to ask for a coffee? He'd gone out with girls before, it shouldn't be so damn hard. "Say, would like to grab a coffee sometime?" he asked. "I mean... if you drink coffee. If not we could get a tea or something... if you like tea... I'm sorry, I'm really horrible at this." he admitted, flushing a bit beneath the scruff on his face. "Would you even be interested in maybe just a walk with me?" he questioned.
She was listening to him when he was speaking on the fact he had scars from the rodeo days, so she figured that it was a bit more dangerous than she would have liked to watch. The smile that was on her lips faltered just a bit when he brought up his mother, though taking a breath and regaining that part of her again. “I’m guessing mother’s can be like that sometimes.” She spoke flashing that smile again, trying to be optimistic. And that was before she gave him a surprised and almost dumbfounded look when he was stammering his asking her out for the coffee tea walk. It took her a moment to allow her head to wrap around what was happening before she allowed the bright smile to form back on her lips, and gave a little nod, “I’d really like that. Coffee, tea or a walk. But .. are you trying to ask me out on a date, or is this just a friendly question? Just so I can be sure.” She added on with a deep red blush of her own.
He bit his lower lip as he flushed a bit more deeply. "Well..." he began. "If you're the sort that would say yes to a coffee, tea or a walk if it were a date... then it's a date. If you'd turn me down, I'm more than able and willin' to let it just be a sort of friendly thing." he told her. The last thing he was wanting to do was push the girl down a road that she wasn't willing to go in. "So I guess that's all up to you, Miss Veronika."
She would have to admit that she liked it when his cheeks got a bit red, and then he sort of rambled like her question had caught him offguard. Even if she was the one now going a little bit flustered, since he had left it up to her. Taking in a breath, she looked at him, her head still tilted to the side, “I’d .. I’d like it to be a date.” She answered, the blush more than evident on her face. Though it just occurring to her that she didn’t know when this date was to take place, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask, her stomach was doing flip-flops at the moment. And it was getting hard to concentrate on anything other than that. “You do know you don’t have to keep calling me Miss, right?” She added, even though she knew he was being polite and all.
When she said she'd like it to be a date, he grinned broadly at her, teeth showing and everything. Obviously she'd just made his day, hell probably his month. "I'd like that too." he admitted. He flushed again when she said he didn't have to call her miss. "I'll try to get out of the habit." he told her with a little chuckle. "So, um... any chance I could turn that coffee, tea, walking thing into maybe dinner tonight?" he asked, sounding a little hopeful. Hey, it couldn't hurt.
That smile of his, that was going to turn into a weakness of hers if it wasn’t already. She couldn’t help but smile in return, it was infectious that way. She felt like she was literally on cloud nine right now, and nothing could go wrong. That was until she started thinking on the past, and the fact that it could come up during the date. Now that had her a little more nervous than the date itself. The facts of herself that she would probably have to keep secret, just because her history proved that certain things needed to be left hidden. Surprise etched on her face when he asked if it could turn into dinner tonight, to which she bit on her lip and nodded, “I’d like that, though if you’d prefer I could maybe cook something?” She’d be fine either which way, just figured she’d offer.
The grin only seemed to grow at her nod and even more at her offer to cook for him. "I'd like that." he admitted. "I'm not much of a cook if I'm bein' honest. It'd be a nice change to have a home cooked meal. If it's not too much trouble of course. I wouldn't want to put you out and it's supposed to be a date so only if I can help with the clean up afterward." he said, hoping she'd agree.
For some reason this made the smile playing on her lips even brighter, and her eyes lighting up some. “Well, lucky for you, I like cooking and it wouldn’t be much trouble at all. I tend to cook way more than I can eat anyhow. And you don’t have to help with the cleanup, but that is very sweet of you to offer.” she commented while she was reaching into her purse to pull out a pen and a slip of paper so she could write down her address to give to him. “What kind of food do you like? So that way I don’t accidentally cook something you’d hate. And what time would you like to come by?” She asked, all happy that this day was definitely looking to be on the up and up.
He chuckled. "I'm a man who hasn't had a pretty girl cook for him in a long, long time." he told her. "I like anything. Anything at all." he assured her. "And believe me, I'll bring my appetite." And flowers. Definitely flowers. Now what kind of flowers said 'I like you' without being too much? Damn something else to think about. "I can come by whenever." he told her. "Maybe six?" he asked. "Is that too late?"
Again with the pretty comment, it made her blush all over again, her nose scrunching up slightly with the bashfulness of it. “Alright, I’ll have to think of something really good then.” she teased, although she was being serious. What would she cook? Oh goodness, it would be time to figure out what all she had at the house and go from there. “Six would be fine, it isn’t too late.” And it would give her time to figure everything out, plus have it made. Without being a nervous wreck she hoped. Oh no, she should probably text Pasha before she actually started anything that way she could give her brother a heads up that she had a date, an actual date, and to maybe not randomly show up like he so often did. She finished writing the address, as well as her cellphone number just in case he got lost or anything, and then held it out to him. “So .. I’ll see you then, at six?”
Landon took the paper from her and looked over it and warred with himself over whether or not to say anything. "Um... if you don't mind..." he said, pulling his phone from his pocket and holding it out to her. "Could you put the number in my phone with your name and what not because I'm dyslexic and I swear I'll end up calling Japan or somethin' before gettin' a hold of you. And chances are I'll need to get a hold of you no matter how clearly you printed your address." he admitted, biting his bottom lip. Might as well get that stupid and annoying disability out of the way while he had her standing right there, shouldn't he?
She looked at the cellphone with a curious expression before he started explaining, and she actually found it endearing that he was being up front about it. “Sure, that’s no problem.” She spoke before taking the phone, her fingers brushing softly against his for a moment. Then she was adding in herself as a new contact on his phone, putting her name and her number in. “Don’t need you accidentally calling Japan, right?” She tried to make light of it since he did first, before she then put it where she could take a quick picture of herself with one of her bright smiles to put with her contact information. A little blush entering her cheeks again after the picture was taken. “Plus, I’d rather you not get lost and me end up thinking I got stood up.” she admitted before handing back the phone to him.
"I'd be a fool to stand you up." he told her as he took the phone back from her. "Thanks though. I know it's a little lame, but I'd much rather let you in on the little details than end up wandering around Toronto or knocking on your neighbors doors." he chuckled. It was easy to make light of something he'd dealt with his entire life so the dyslexia didn't really bother him much anymore. "Guess I should let you get back to your shopping around." he said. "Gotta handle a few things before dinner tonight so I'll see you then?"
She felt like a schoolgirl with a crush, a major one at that, especially when he said little things like how he’d be a fool to stand her up. “You’re welcome, and it isn’t lame. I’m glad you told me, that way nothing like that would happen.” She spoke with a smile. And then she laughed lightly, “Alright, yes, I’ll see you at dinner tonight.” Veronika spoke happily, before she showed him another smile. Now she just had to finish up her shopping and figure out what to make for dinner.
