It was a good thing that Chloe was too nervous about Mateo's parents having arrived to snicker at Mateo's middle names. It didn't help that Jason commented about how they'd 'surely' met Chloe. "Actually, Daddy, no," she admitted, biting her lower lip as she gave a tiny smile in Mrs. Rodriguez's general direction. "Mateo's parents hadn't met me yet. We just hadn't really been able to mesh schedules and... well," she sighed, pushing her hair back behind her ear and offering one hand out to Mrs. Rodriguez first. "I'm Chloe," she said, trying to at least not ruin her first impression.
"And Daddy's right. It wasn't Mateo's fault. The lured him in and ganged up on him and it was just a big mess. Five on one. It wasn't a fair fight so... go easy on him? Please? Really it's all my fault because the guy that started this whole mess did it because he wanted to get back at Mateo for dating me," she admitted. It was true. It was really all her fault the whole thing had started in the first place. Derek wouldn't have gone after Mateo if she hadn't immediately started dating him. Not that she regretted Mateo or their relationship, but it was the truth. "He wanted to pull some macho guy routine and needed the help of some goons to do it."
