Evan was a bit uncomfortable as they made their way up to the attic. He stopped midway up the stairs as his brother spoke to their father. It was a one-sided conversation that Evan only heard Dale's words, but he knew somehow, could feel somehow, that his father was there. The presence of him was strong. It was as if Evan knew subconsciously that his father was there. As if he could sense his presence, feel him with every fiber of his being.
When Dale told their father that the youngest of the boys had returned, Evan took the rest of the steps into the attic and stood beside his brother, questioningly looking over at his older sibling and then back in the direction that Dale was facing. He saw nothing, of course, but what he felt was more important anyway. He wasn't sure what to say, so he didn't say anything at all.
