A night in
Who: Charlie and Xander
What: Talking to start
When: Thursday Night
Where: The Lion's Den (Charlie's room)
Warnings:
Xander had intended to tell Charlie where he'd been over the phone, but when he'd called her, they'd gotten to talking about other things and then her sister had come home and asked if he wanted to come over for pizza and hang out for a bit. So he went and they had pizza and he got to know Chloe and Gracie a little better figuring if he was going to be spending more time with Charlie he should at least get to know her sisters. He also spent a great portion of the night watching Dimitri make googly eyes at the oldest Richards girl. He was ridiculous. Absolutely smitten by the looks of it, but it amused Xander to no end that he seemed so head over heels for the girl.
Afterwards they'd parted ways. The littlest daughter went off to bed and Chloe and Dimitri went to her room so he followed Charlie to hers in turn and sat on the edge of her bed. "I need to talk to you about something," he told her. "I meant to say something about it over the phone but I never really got the chance so," he sighed, patting the edge of the bed beside him. "Come sit, let's talk."
Charlie had had like, the best day ever. She got a boyfriend who was amazing who kissed her and was honest with her and then he got to come over for dinner and hanging out. Definitely the best day ever.
After dinner, Gracie had gone to bed and Chloe had gone off with Dimitri to her room, leaving Charlie and Xander to go to Charlie's room. The little lion's heart was pounding as they went into her room and Xander sat on the edge of her bed. She never had a boy in her room before that wasn't a just a friend. Especially not one on her bed. She went and sat next to him as he told her to, looking up at him. "What's up?" she asked, looking a bit confused. She wondered what he could possibly tell her at this point.
"I just want to be honest with you about something," he told her, taking her hand and giving her fingers a squeeze. "I went to see your dad earlier at the precinct," he explained with a little sigh. "I wanted to tell him everything before the party thing Saturday because I didn't want it to be all awkward. I wanted to come with a clean slate so I figured maybe telling him everything ahead of time was the best thing to do. He's not exactly happy, but he didn't forbid me from seeing you," he told her. "I don't want you mad at me for just showing up at his work or whatever, but I really like you, okay?"
Charlie was wondering what else and when he told her her eyes went huge. She had no idea if she should be completely pissed off at him or what. She never expected he would go to her dad's job and spill the beans like, immediately. Her brain was trying to process everything when one key piece of information hit her. "Wait, he didn't forbid you from seeing me?" she asked, in total shock. "Really?!"
He shook his head. "No," he told her. "He said I need help and therapy and things like that and to not hurt you and whatever, but I didn't plan on that anyways, I just wanted to be honest, Char, so don't be pissed at me, okay?" Not that he could really blame her if she was. He'd gone off and spilled all these horrible secrets to her father before even consulting with her about it. "And there's a couple more things that I need to come clean about too. I don't just smoke pot..."
"I'm not mad at you." she said and she really wasn't. She was actually pretty relieved. Charlie had been stressing about her dad since Xander had dropped her off only hours before but that part was taken care of. Everything else could be handled from here. "Ok....I'm guessing you probably drink too, right?" she said. Most seniors did at parties, from what she heard. It was like at any other high school really. "That's not too bad or anything."
He nodded. "Yeah, I drink," he sighed. "But I also pop pills. Shit I shouldn't be taking but I do anyway," he muttered, brushing his free hand through his hair. "I wanna get clean, babe, I really do, but I can't promise you that it's gonna happen overnight and I can't promise you that I'm not going to be ridiculously too much shit for you to deal with, but I can promise that I like you and I want whatever this is between us to have a fair shake." He sighed again and finally mustered up the courage to look at her. "I'll get it if you don't want to deal with my baggage," he told her. "But I hope you'll at least consider because I do want to get to know you."
Charlie bit her lower lip as he spilled yet another secret to her. Her heart went out to him and she could see he really wanted to fix things in his life. It wasn't just for her either, which was a good thing. "Xander..." she said with a soft smile. "I think from our talk in the park I figured out this wasn't going to be easy...But is anything worth it ever easy? I want to give this a shot, give us a shot, and you know, I'm pretty strong and don't mind helping you carry a few of the bags you got."
"You shouldn't have to though," he reminded her. "It's not your load to carry, it's mine and if I really cared about you, I wouldn't ask you to go through all the bullshit," he muttered. He let himself flop back on her bed with a little sigh, fingers still playing against hers. "But I guess I'm just selfish," he told the girl. "Because I want you around."
Charlie didn't care about his baggage. It was something she could handle, as much as every seemed to think she couldn't. The girl laid down beside him, letting her fingers lace with his. "Be selfish all you like cause I want to be around." she told him. "I like you too, remember?"
It was nice to hear those simple words and for a moment he felt a little better. He gave her hand a squeeze and lifted it enough that he could press his lips to her skin. "Thanks," he murmured. "It's nice to feel like I have someone in my corner. Even your dad was all gung ho about helping me. He says that he'll get me a list of therapists and give it to you to give to me. I don't know how much I wanna talk to some shrink, but I don't really have much of a choice."
A shiver went through her as he kissed her hand and she moved closer to him. "It's not all bad." she said. "We all went for a bit, after mom died. Gracie was too little, but really it's just talking to someone." she explained. At least that was what it had been to five year old Charlie. Just talking to someone. "I can go with you, if you want. I don't mind."
He shook his head a little. "Thanks, but I think this is just something that I'm going to have to do on my own." He appreciated the offer, but he had to cope with his own past alone before he could expect anyone to help him cope. "Maybe I'll just talk to you about my horrible problems after the shrink flees the room." he teased.
Charlie giggled and turned her head so she could lean over and give him a kiss on the cheek. "You can always talk to me, about anything." she told him. "That's what people in relationships do, right? Talk to one another about everything?" She was pretty sure that was one of the requirements.
He smiled at her, catching her cheek so he could turn his head to kiss her on the mouth. "So that mean we're in a relationship?" he asked her. "I thought I just asked you to homecoming," he teased. Not that he was complaining if she wanted to put a label on it. He'd gladly take that label.
She was pleased with the kiss and wanted more. "It seems kinda dumb to have done everything you did today just to go to the dance." she said to him with a perked eyebrow. "So you're in a relationship with me and you better like it."
"Oh I better rush off to my computer and change my facebook status," he chuckled. Okay, so maybe he would change his facebook status, but that was besides the point. "I better like it, huh? Well aren't you bossy."
"I am a bit bossy, yes. I also have the ability to kick the ass of those who do not listen to me so I can be bossy and back it up." she said with a grin. There was something about Xander that made her relax. She had been stupid nervous at first, but the teasing, the trust, it all mixed to make her feel comfortable with him.
"A bit?" he laughed, shaking his head a little as he caught her cheek in his hand. "You're a lot a bit bossy," he assured her. And she was. But he liked it. She knew what she wanted and how to get it and he had to respect that in a woman.
Charlie grinned at him, nuzzling his hand a bit and unable to help the tiny purr that slipped from her. "At least you know what you're getting into?" she offered. Xander had given her a veritable road map to what she would be dealing with and it was only fair she put her cards on the table too. "I'm also very competitive."
"Good thing we don't play the same sports," he laughed. He was pretty sure they'd find something to compete over, however, not that he really minded much. "Any other personality flaws?" he teased.
She giggled, looking into his eyes adoringly. "Probably plenty, all of which I'm sure you'll find out eventually." she said with a quirky little grin. Charlie figured if there was some mystery to her, he would stay around longer just to figure her out.
"I hope so," he told her. "So, your dad says I need to stay away from the pills and the weed til Saturday. Doesn't want me high off my ass around whoever is coming to this shindig. I think I'm going to end up smoking more cigarettes," he admitted with a sigh. Going cold turkey, even for a couple of days wasn't something he wanted to do. He wasn't as far down the road to being a junkie as some people he'd seen, but it was getting worse. He'd been dealing and he'd been doing things that he knew he shouldn't have been. Things his mother would roll over in her grave about had she known. He wanted to be a better person than that.
Charlie wasn't so sheltered that she didn't understand how hard it was going to be for him to do this. She squeezed his hand gently. "I'm always here if you need me." she said softly before leaning in to brush her lips against his. Charlie wanted to see him succeed, to get clean so they could really work at being together. She was going to support him through it in any way she could and in any way he needed.
"Thanks," he said, voice not really more than a whisper before he returned the soft kiss. Gently he tugged one of the pink strands in her blonde hair and smiled at her. "Thank you," he said again. "Just for being willing to stick around, even if you're not sure how bad it's going to get..."
"I'm not going anywhere." she told him with a smile, leaning in to nuzzle him a bit. Charlie was too stubborn for her own good and when she set her mind to something, that was it. She was going to be with Xander and that was it. She kissed him again, nipping his lower lip the littlest bit.
He hoped she wasn't going to go anywhere, but he couldn't blame her if she did. It was a lot to take in, especially at the start of a relationship. A lot to accept from a person you really didn't even know. Xander moved a little after that kiss, propping himself up on one elbow as he looked down at her, his free hand sliding through her hair. "I heard girls had a thing for bad boys, but what's your story?"
Another purr slipped from her as his hand went through her hair, her tongue licking across her lips. "Not sure there's a story exactly..." she said with a blush. "Like I said, I noticed you practicing and well...The other girls might of helped my noticing you...So I wouldn't say I'm into bad boys so much as I'm into you."
That got a smile from the boy as he continued to toy with her hair. "I'm sure there's a story about you," he told her, leaning in to press his lips to her forehead. "Tell me about you, Char, I wanna get to know you."
Charlie was pretty well swooning by this point. She was trying to think of things to talk about herself, but it was really hard when he was looking down at her and smelled so damn good. "Well...Obviously I'm really into sports." she said. "Always have been. My sisters did the girly stuff and I was the one going fishing and camping with my dad, racing go-carts...." This really wasn't making her sound like a girl at all and she bit her lower lip. "I dunno...Not used to talking about me I guess."
Xander moved his hand to her cheek, his thumb riding along her lower lip and lightly tugging it to get her to release it from between her teeth. "Well I hope you'll start to get used to it," he murmured. "Because I like hearing about you."
Her cheeks went a bit rosy as his thumb brushed over her lower lip. "My favorite food is french fries dipped in a vanilla milkshake." she whispered as it was the first thing that popped into her head.
"Sounds like something that a pregnant woman would eat," he teased her. "But I can't really talk, I like pretzels with mustard on them," he admitted. "But my all time favorite food is probably french fries with cheese and bacon. And now I've succeeded in making myself hungry all over again," he laughed.
Charlie giggled, reaching up to gently brush her fingers over his stubbled cheek. "I can make you a snack if you want me to." she offered. She herself was hungry, but not for food. All she wanted to taste was his lips.
He shook his head a little. "No," he told her. "I'm good." And good didn't even begin to describe it. He finally felt like he wasn't aching all over and maybe it was just because he was too high off of Charlie's presence to notice he hadn't had a pill or a toke since lunch. Leaning down, he caught her lips with his own, letting out a soft little approving groan against her mouth.
She let her arms slide around him, the noise he made making her shiver. Charlie had never understood why people kissed all the time. Truthfully she had thought it was kinda gross. Now she knew different. Since Xander had first kissed her that afternoon, she hadn't be able to think of anything else. It was the best thing ever. Like before, that fire licked through her body and Charlie kissed him back with a moan of her own.
Xander's arm wound around Charlie's body, pulling her in against him with another little groan. She felt better than she should have, amazing really. Soft and warm and solid against him. It was nice to just feel something solid, to have someone that he could hold onto for a little while, someone that knew all his secrets and still wanted to be there beside him. When he finally pulled his mouth from hers, a little breathlessly, he bit his lower lip and let his eyes move over her face briefly before looking into her eyes. "I think I'm going to turn into one of those assholes that can't stop kissing his girlfriend," he grinned.
Her heart was pounding in her chest the entire time and the adrenaline running through her was way more intense than any she had ever had before. If she wanted some good adrenaline for playing, all she needed to do was have Xander kiss her before going out onto the field. She looked up at him, unable to keep from smiling. "I'm alright with that." she said, running her fingers through his hair.
He sat up, kicking off his shoes and shifting to lean against the pillows at the head of her bed. Parting his thighs, he motioned for her to come lay against him. For some reason he just wanted to hold onto her for a while, to feel the warmth of her body against his own. "Come here," he murmured.
Charlie smiled and kicked off her own shoes. She went to him as he asked, laying against him, letting her head rest on his shoulder as his arms wrapped around her. Charlie hugged his arms, her fingers playing over his hands as she let out a content sigh. There was something perfect about this. She closed her eyes, a soft smile on her face as she relaxed, happy to spend the rest of her life wrapped up with him in this moment.
