Narrative: Rachel Ends Things With Matt; Text: Rachel to Jamie Who: Rachel, Matt(NPC) Where: Faurot Park When: 10/8, afternoon (backdated) What: After her kiss with Jaime and conversation with Santana, Rachel calls Matt to end things
Rachel sighed, watching the activity in the park intently. She was fifteen minutes early for her meeting with Matt, but still found herself getting impatient. She wanted to get this over with.
She'd been extremely confused for the past few days, in more ways than one, but if there was one thing that she was sure of, it was that now was not the time for her to be in any type of relationship, benefits-only or not. There was also the fact that she was nursing some serious feelings for Jamie, and it was unfair to both he and Matt for whatever it was she was doing to continue.
Finally, a few hundred feet away, she could see Matt approaching her. He was smiling widely at her, hands shoved in the pockets of his baggy jeans, and for a moment, she just wanted to call the whole thing off, and keep the arrangement as it was. As he continued to approach, though, she found herself humming the first few bars of "White Balloons," and remembered why she had to do this.
"Hey," Matt said, taking the seat beside her on the bench. "I was kinda surprised when you called. It's been awhile."
She smiled in greeting at him, unsuccessful at making it last more than just a few quick seconds. "Yes, I know. Matt, I have a confession to make."
His smile dimmed, then, taking on a certain sadness. "Let me guess. You have a thing for that new kid in Glee, Jamie, and think it's best if we call things off."
She sighed sadly, upset that her shift in focus had been so easily noticed. "Yes and no. While it's true that I do have strong feelings for Jaime, I can't say that I'm completely without romantic feelings for you, either. But..."
"I get it, Rachel. You like somebody else. No big deal. We made it pretty clear at the beginning what this was. No since getting sad that you found somebody you really wanna date, huh?" He chuckled. Apparently his feelings weren't all friendly, either. That made her feel all the more guilty.
"I'm not going to date Jaime, Matt. At least not right now. I think... I just need for it to just be me, for awhile. I spent fifteen years by myself, but I think I've forgotten how to be alone. I'm going to try and remember." She took his hand, hoping he understood. "I really am glad I got to know you, though. Can we try being friends, this time? Minus the benefits?" Matt took a deep breath, looking unsure. "I don't know. I really liked the benefits..." He laughed when she slapped him on the arm, happy to hear her laughing as well.
She took one more deep breath herself, standing. "Now," she said, offering him her hand to help pull him up. "Tell me about your life. We've been even more uncommunicative than usual lately, and I would like to catch up with current events."
He smiled, taking her proffered hand.
