Ramon goes to work for Zara Who: Ramon and Abigail Where: Abigail's house When: 24 September, late afternoon What: Ramon does some yardwork and wonder what is up of the little mistress Warnings: With Ramon's mouth, who knows?
Ramon really didn't like working at the Morris household. Okay, so the money was good and provided something of a cushion for his family. After all, his mom worked two jobs and Ramon did have his additional dishwasher salary for working a few nights a week at Breadsticks. Gabi even babysat. The household barely broke even and had a small surplus to go into savings for both Ramon and Gabi to go to college (Pilar's dream for her children and both siblings wanted out of Lima Heights). While the Estrella household did get welfare shortly after the divorce, Pilar was proud and wanted to prove she could raise two kids on her own. Of course, there were a lot of cuts the family had to make and they did not live luxurious lives at all.
Of course, working meant Ramon didn't have much in the way of free time. In a way, it was good because as he overheard Emma saying... when kids are idle, they would get into activities that aren't so wholesome. Ramon knew that when he wasn't busy, that is when he had a tendency to... well, make really bad racist remarks at his classmates because he was just irritated about something unrelated... like the fact they were Glee Club kids or the fact one of his close friends was clearly not his close friend anymore. Or the fact that his strength was suddenly difficult to control. Oh and the football game just overall sucked. Really? What was going on?
Even after that crazy night, Ramon found he could sleep in at least a little bit before he had to make the trek across town to mow the lawn and do other lawn work for the witch. He really could not stand this woman. First off, she knew way too much about his family's life and the complications of it. In fact, she used it much like a whip to get him to move faster in some sort of emotional blackmail. Ramon was kind of convinced she only hired him because he was Latino and everyone knew the stereotypes about Latinos and lawn work. She probably thought she had something of an undocumented worker. There were days Ramon wanted to staple his birth certificate to his forehead. He was so lucky that she paid well because the hassle wasn't worth it.
Ramon did feel a little bit for Abigail, even though she was a Glee Kid, because he saw how she was treated by her mother. And he could recall how difficult it was. Even though he was unfriendly to her at school (mostly ignoring her and trying to veto when the others wanted to slushie her), the simple fact she stopped to be nice to him while he worked in the summer heat started to make a bit of a dent on him.
As he mowed the law, he noticed the leaves were changing color. Probably the next time he came over, it would be to rake leaves. Then after that, he would have to wait for the inevitable snow. As he continued his work, sweat dripping down his temples, he saw Abigail through the window looking rather down. Come to think of it, she did look rather down all week. Deciding he could use a break, he approached the window and lightly knocked on it.
