Thread: A Hero is Born Who: Finn & other football players (maybe cheerios), Samantha Hunter - Reporter for the Channel 7 Daily News (NPC) When: 9/22, after classes, Football Practice Where: On the McKinley Football Field What: Football Practice
When Beiste motioned towards Finn, he was almost sure he was going to get lectured for that last play, he made a pretty disgraceful fumble. He was hoping she'd somehow let it slide. He sheepishly hung his head between his shoulder pads, trying to not let the other players get on his case, he hated being made fun of especially for the things he was supposed to be good at. But as he neared Beiste, his eyes traced from the ground up the shapely body of perky blonde holding a microphone. He lifted his head, any ounce of shame he felt replaced with sheer curiosity. Behind the woman stood a conservative camera crew of just a camera man and boom operator. He squinted, reading 'Channel 7 Daily News' on the side of the camera.
"Wonderful to meet you Mr. Hudson." The woman outstretched an arm. When he closed in on her and Beiste, he began to scan her face. He was pretty sure she was that Samantha Hunter from the evening news, the same Carole typically watched while making him and Kurt dinner. Yeah, she was that lady on the news for sure.
"Nice to meet you too." After his moment of observation he finally outstretched his hand while taking off his helment. While shaking her hand he glanced over to Beiste who didn't offer much more than a nod and a smile.
"Do you have time for an interview?" Samantha asked more in the form of a statement. He doubted she would've taken no for an answer.
Looked over his shoulder, he noticed a few football players had walked towards him to check out the camera crew. He shrugged to his friends before turning his attention back to Samantha.
"I guess."
Samantha stuck a microphone beneath to his chest, Finn arching forward to reach it.
"How does it feel to be a hero?"
A what?
He arched his eyebrows, not really understanding what that meant. To Finn, most heroes were like Batman or Superman, capes and stuff. He definitely considered his dad a hero, but he was a soldier. Okay sure, he was the hero of Glee Club or the football team sometimes, like if he got Rachel to come back to the club or made a winning play, but never enough to catch the eye of the local news. Sue Sylvester typically made sure of that.
"Scoring an inconceivable field goal, sending your team to glory, saving lives during a major fire! You've caught a lot of eyes this homecoming week Mr. Hudson!"
Throwing a hand behind his head he rubbed the back of his neck, trying to hide the grin that just wouldn't stop creeping onto his face, "It was no big deal, really."
"No big deal! How cute, you're so modest." Samantha laughed in this flirtatious way, a way that totally made him uneasy. He tone quickly shifted.
"Can you describe the day of the fire?"
All of a sudden he felt like he was being asked to describe the meaning behind a passage in his english class. It's like he got what happened but he just didn't always have the words. Or didn't really want to find them.
"It was definitely crazy. I don't think anyone really knows what stared the fire, but I just knew I had to get out. I guess my senses kicked in and I just wanted to make sure i got everyone out alive. It's a bad way to spend homecoming after all. Basically, I just wanted to make sure people were okay."
"Well because of fine boys like you there were no fatal injuries! We even heard you saved a handicap kid from the fire by flying?!"
Well he thought that that air he got was no accident the day of the fire, but he was still seriously doubting he flew. People always exaggerated things. It's like, if he flew he would've known for sure. Well okay now he was starting to think that maybe he did fly. Maybe he had to try to fly. It wasn't really something he'd try to do no a normal basis because like thats for birds and stuff, even though Puck bet him $5 once when they were like 13 and he definitely broke an arm that year after jumping off the roof. It's not like he was going to try that again soon. But maybe it was time to start trying again. But it'd suck if he was wrong and he broke another arm. He couldn't risk that during the football season.
"I think it was just an adrenaline rush yknow? Getting air like that. I just jumped."
"We have some footage in the studio that may say otherwise."
Samantha pestered him with more and more rapid fire questions, making him recount the whole experience. He did his best trying to avoid the major details like Artie suddenly being able to crawl. He wasn't interested in drawing attention to the whole event too much. Not yet anyway, before he could figure things out for himself. He was basically out of it, awkwardly smiling into the camera every time the cameraman would come a little too close to his face. He'd eye his friends behind him, nervously drumming on the side of his thighs as she'd talk and he'd kinda listen. More or less Finn would grab onto the last five words and guess what the hell she was talking about. Finn was okay with spotlight, in fact he sort of thrived in it and all, but the questioning was just too insane. He wasn't so good at thinking on his feet like that.
After interview wrapped up. Samantha went to shake his hand again,
"Thank you for your time, we'd LOVE for you to come into the studio and have a more lengthy interview, I'm sure we'll have lots to talk about. See you around, Hero." She winked at him before walking away with the crew.
As much as the whole interview process felt completely surreal, Finn felt his cheeks flushing. Hero huh? Well, he could get used to the sound of that.
