Thread: Rachel and Matt's Night In When: 9/8, evening Where: Rachel's house Who: Rachel and Matt What: Matt and Rachel enjoy an evening exploring their new "friendship."
Rachel switched out the bowls on her table for the sixth time that evening, once again shooting a glance at the clock. She was aware that she needed to calm down, she just couldn't quite manage to do it.
What in the world was wrong with her? Sure, Saturday had one of the best nights she'd had all summer, despite it's lackluster start, but she'd been lonely and Matt had been drunk. Those weren't strong foundations for a friendship, let alone whatever it was that they had become to each other. She should have just ignored her natural frankness(and her hormones) for once, invited him over to talk, and let them explore whatever chemistry they had -- as friends or as more -- like adults.
But it was too late for that now. Matt would be over soon, and dammit the snacks still weren't right!
Straightening the stack of DVDs she had put out as her back up, she fought the urge to replace the bowls once again. This self-control lasted all of thirty seconds before she grabbed the blue bowl off of the table(yes, they were color coded) and made her way back towards the kitchen. Unfortunately, before she could do away with the baked sweet potato fries that now just felt all wrong, the doorbell rang, breaking her stride. Taking a deep breath, she sat the bowl back in its proper position, stood up straight, and made her way to the door.
Pasting a not-at-all-nervous smile on her face, she said, "Hi! I know we didn't state a specific time, but I still feel confident in saying that you're early."
