"So it could be said that a screwdriver both tightens... and loosens."
Date: 9/8/2011, around 6 PM.
Characters: Lizzie & Mercedes.
Location: The Glee room.
Warnings: None.
Summary: Lizzie is carrying out one of her chores for Sue.
Lizzie could not believe she was still able to stand up. She'd had to get to school at 5:30 a.m. to repot the plants in Coach Sylvester's office, and it had been so gross; she couldn't believe she'd even been able to get all the dirt out from under her nails. That had been followed by a full day of school, lunch with Coach (her definition of lunch had been filing PE department papers), benchwarming during Cheerios, and a few hours put in at her dad's diner.... and now she was back at school. God, she hoped this wouldn't take too long, since her father had given her the evil eye for ducking out early.
Plus she still had all her homework to do. Really do, that is. She was so freaking tired.
Coach had told her to wait until 8:30 PM, but given that she had so much else to do, Lizzie couldn't take it anymore. If she didn't get there now, there was no chance her homework would get done - to say nothing of sleep. So she'd snuck into the school - as Coach had promised, the gym door was unlocked - with her father's tool kit. Lizzie had serious reservations about this particular task, considering that Santana, Kurt and Brittany were in Glee Club - but she had to believe that Coach wouldn't be so sadistic as to not forewarn them.
Right?
Lizzie found the Glee classroom and crept inside, turning on her flashlight - she was too nervous about the nature of what she was doing to turn on the overhead light. Steeling herself, she crept beneath the first chair and found the rivet that held the legs of the chair to the seat. It was going to be much easier to take care of the chairs first, and then the rest of the furniture. Slowly, she loosened the rivet just to the point where it was still connected, but only barely. Once all the rivets were loosened, whoever sat in the chair next would be sure to clatter right to the floor.
(credit where credit's due: the task Sue assigns Lizzie is taken from The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier.)
