"I haven't been able to sleep well since high school. I just got used to it and didn't think it was worth mentioning. And Rory waking up only just started happening. If I thought it was something to worry about, I would have told you by now. She's probably just a light sleeper is all."
He sighed. He hadn't lied but he hadn't told her the entire truth, like how his lack of sleep had started up again because of their changed sleeping patterns or that he didn't tell her because he didn't think she would have the time to listen. The sound of sorrow in her voice pained him though and he got out of his seat to sit beside her. He cupped her cheek, guiding her to look at him.
"Rachel, it's not what you think, I swear. I go to that bar because it's open late and I can sing there sometimes, if I want to. And I have tried all those places. The deck, the lobby. Sometimes I walk around the park or visit one of the construction sites I'm working on. It's only to change my scenery from time to time. That's all okay?
"And I didn't mean anything by saying that Luka and Rory needed to be prepared. I just wanted you to know that it's okay if they depend on one another, not that I thought they would have a reason to anytime soon."
