Jaime walked through the front door tiredly, the lack of sleep from last night getting to him. That and the fact the he still couldn't create a portal. He'd tried countless times since leaving the bar and still nothing. He tried his best not to let it get to him, hoping that the constant emotional turmoil he was dealing with was causing some kind of block.
He tossed his keys onto a nearby table only for them to fall through it and onto the floor, something that hadn't happened since high school. If he'd had the strength he would have glared. Of course his powers would work well enough to be a pain. Rubbing at his eyes he ducked under the table to retrieve his keys only to knock the back of his head on the edge just as he was getting up.
Jaime grunted in frustration as he got up and dropped the keys where he originally wanted them. Today was just not his day. Rubbing the sore spot on the back of his head, he grumbled all the way to the kitchen only to stop in his tracks when he spotted Rachel standing by the sink, her back to him. His first instinct was to walk up behind her, wrap his arms around her and give her a good morning kiss but he could tell from her stiff posture that last night's events were still fresh in her mind so he stayed where he was.
"Hey - good morning." He faltered not knowing what to say. He hadn't expected her to be up already and wasn't prepared to handle what was inevitably going to be a continuation of last night's brief discussion as Rachel had promised. He'd been too focused on getting their kids to school safely and on time (leaving them behind was still the toughest part of them going to school), and figured he'd have time to sort out what he was going to say when she finally did wake up, but that wasn't the case. "I was going to make you breakfast but if you'd prefer, I could step out to get you something else."
