She hadn't discussed this with Dan. That was the uncomfortable part. It wasn't that they never had secrets from each other, but she didn't like to keep secrets from him. Secrets kept from Dan fell into two categories; things too small to matter and things which mattered far too much.
But much as she loved him, she couldn't afford to tell anyone anything they didn't need to know. If it got to be a major factor in her plans, she guessed she'd share it with him; until then, it was best for both of them if he didn't know exactly what she was up to. It wasn't like keeping her own counsel was a new phenomenon to her.
Not having discussed it, though, didn't mean she hadn't thought about it. Now, with the light starting to fade, she perched in the top of the old larch tree which had become a favourite haunt of hers long before her power made it less dangerous. She could just see the house from here, but experience told her that they wouldn't be able to see her, and that it was completely invisible from the ground. The ground under the tree was also completely out of sight of the road, which instinct told her was an important tactical consideration.
When she had cleared her mind and methodically sorted through as many factors affecting this meeting as she could think of, she finally pulled her cell out of her jacket pocket and texted the number she'd been given by the guy who'd approached her.
To: Richard There's a little wood about three miles out of Lima. Dead oak near the centre was struck by lightening near the storm. Meet me there asap.
