"I know." Bethan's lips thinned slightly. "All of that. I fucking know. But that's why it's so important. Not going out is letting all of those people, those fucking scumbags, win. And if they come at me like they did at Puckerman, I'll kick their fucking asses so hard they won't know what hit them. Just because I can't stick to walls doesn't mean I can't do the job."
She let out another long breath, through her nose. She didn't even care if Debra thought she was Dan, there was still this idea that she couldn't handle herself. Besides, even if it was aimed at Dan, she would still be resentful of the idea that Puckerman was somehow more capable than anyone in her family. Dan might not have spent his whole life kicking ass like she had, but it didn't mean he was some kind of loser when it came to fighting.
She considered leaving, but only for a split second. That would be stupid, too. Letting her emotions rule her was okay with small-scale stuff, but this was serious, and she had to take it seriously.
"It doesn't matter if it's smart or not," she said, at last. "It's necessary."
