Thread: Dinner for four Date: February 3, Friday evening Characters: Rachel, Jaime, Jadyn, and the twin's mother Location: The Ishii household Summary: Rachel has dinner with Jaime's family for the first time
Jaime frowned at his reflection in the bathroom mirror for the third time, still not liking how his hair looked. Deep down he knew that his hair wasn't the reason he was annoyed, but because he was nervous and he didn't know why. Sure, Rachel was coming over to have dinner with his family for the first time since they'd been dating, but that was no reason for him to be anxious, right? His mother was excited to meet Rachel and he and Jadyn had already settled things about his girlfriend for the last time, so there was nothing to worry about. Yet he was still fretting fifteen minutes before Rachel was due to be there. Groaning in frustration, he turned only to be surprised by Jadyn leaning in the doorway, an amused smile on her face.
"How long have you been there?" He asked sheepishly, his hand reaching up to scratch the back of his neck. It was a habit he had when he was nervous and seeing it only made Jadyn smile more.
"Long enough." She shrugged before stepping into the bathroom with him. She pushed his hand away before beginning to comb her own fingers through his hair.
"Relax. There's nothing to be nervous about. Everything will be fine." She murmured as she focused on manually styling his hair. Whether it was her ministrations or her calm tone, Jaime felt his tension sort of just melt away. He closed his eyes, letting her do as she pleased even though she'd had a bad habit of putting his hair in pigtails with pink ribbons when they were younger.
"And what about you?"
"Are you asking if I'll be on my best behavior?" She'd meant for it to be in a teasing sort of way, but when he stared at her unwaveringly, she sighed. "I'll be fine, I promise. What's special to you is special to me, okay?"
Not giving him time to respond, she finished with a flourish, turning him towards the mirror again. "There! All done. Now hurry up. Mom wants us, and by us I mean you, to set the table before sh-, Rachel gets here."
He smiled and shook his head as he watched her disappear out of the bathroom. Turning to look at his reflection one last time, he nodded his head, more than pleased with Jadyn's handiwork, before he followed her to the dining room. Jadyn was right. Everything would be just fine.
