Narrative: Game on Date: January 26, Thursday Characters: Jadyn and Quinn Location: The Principal's office and the cafeteria Summary: Quinn gets back at Jadyn for Monday
Jadyn should have known nothing good would come of her being called to the Principal's office. Why else if for nothing bad? It wasn't like she was going to be awarded for her extraordinary attendance record. No. Only bad things could come from this endeavor. Today, it happened to be in the form of a scrawny blonde boy with a slouched posture and an obvious sinus problem.
Jadyn never even heard what the principal had to say. All she could do was stare at the boy and think 'What fresh hell is this?' nearly the whole time they were there. She did hear when the balding man mentioned the word 'mentor' and her name in the same sentence.
"I'm sorry, what?" Jadyn had responded instantly, wide eyes trained on the man.
Once he had her undivided attention, he explained that apparently Jadyn had been volunteered by an anonymous person as a suitable candidate for a new program the school was trying. A sort of out-reach program for the younger students of the school, particularly freshmen and sophomores that were having a hard time adjusting. How anyone ever thought Jadyn would make a suitable person for this was beyond her. But just as she was about to vehemently protest, the principal brought up her attendance, or lack thereof and explained that this would go a long way towards making that up. When she instead asked just what she was supposed to do with him, it was revealed that he would attend her classes, and any extra activities with her two days out of the week for six weeks.
After that Jadyn just kind of zoned out. Six weeks? Two whole months of being trailed by the cowardly lion? What had she ever done to deserve this? When the words 'starting today' were heard, it was like the final nail in the coffin. And shortly afterwards, when snot-nosed Steve (she never really caught his name), stumbled over his own two feet and barreled into her, Jadyn realized she'd just entered purgatory.
A few hours later, when lunch arrived, Jadyn was ready to bash her head into the table until she was unconscious. She'd considered just knocking him out, or scaring him so badly, he'd never want to be within 50 feet of her ever again, but she couldn't be sure if this was a test and someone was watching, waiting for her bully him, or if he himself was the test. So she endured, went to class, and mostly pretended that he didn't exist. When he wasn't bumping into her, dropping things, or blowing his nose in her ear. The latter of which he was doing right then. LOUDLY.
Normally she didn't spend her lunch in the cafeteria, but she didn't dare take this worm anywhere that brought her tranquility or peace. So she sat in the lunch room that was too crowded and too noisy, her mood so dark, she was sure there was an actual black cloud hovering over her head. So was so focused on not lashing out at him or anyone else, that she never noticed the blonde strolling towards them, triumphant smirk on her face. But apparently her new companion had as he practically flailed and knocked his open milk over and right into her lap.
Jadyn froze and he actually squeaked as he frantically grabbed a handful of napkins with the intention of cleaning up the mess. She snatched his wrist in a painful grip, a menacing growl sounding as she looked at him.
"I'm so sorry!" He rushed to apologize before something behind Jadyn caught his attention. He practically stopped breathing, which confused Jadyn because what could possibly be distracting him from his imminent death, but then a specific scent registered with her and she whipped her head around, glaring as her eyes landed on Quinn. Jadyn growled again.
"What do you want?"
“Just checking in,” Quinn smiled sweetly at the kid, “making sure everything was going alright.” She didn’t let the sweet smile drop, not giving Jadyn an excuse to say anything to her. “It’s our jobs as seniors to look out for the younger classmen.” She was so smug it almost hurt.
“Our?” Jadyn’s eyes narrowed at Quinn before widening again as she turned to look from the other girl, to the boy still staring at Quinn in a daze, and back again. Her grip on his wrist tightened without her realizing it as she tried to set Quinn on fire with the ferocity of her glare.
“You.” She hissed venomously, even as the boy whimpered in pain.
“Now, now, Jadyn,” the condescension was thick in Quinn’s voice, “you’re going to damage the boy.” She indicated to the grip Jadyn had on him. “Then, Figgins might think you need to put in more time. You wouldn’t want that, would you?”
Quinn knew that the entire program was a waste of time, who would want freshmen and sophomores trailing them to class while they were trying to study and learn and get out of this dump? Probably no one more than Jadyn. The entire reason behind everything. “He might even give you two students to mentor. Wouldn’t that be fun?”
Jadyn released the boy swiftly with a sneer, as if she’d been touching something extremely disgusting. He released a quivering sigh of release, still gazing at Quinn as if he were starstruck despite the very real danger of getting his arm broken.
“Thanks.” He breathed and Jadyn released a snarling snap in his face so feral, it would have made Beau proud.
“You don’t talk to her. You don’t even look at her.” She warned viciously before turning back to Quinn. She was so angry, she actually had no words. She just glared, her clenched teeth bared. Rising to her feet slowly, she made a move to step towards Quinn before thinking better of it. It was too crowded, too noisy, and Jadyn’s blood was too hot for her to risk getting into it with the infuriating blonde just then.
“This isn’t over.” She promised darkly before reaching down and grabbing her charge by the shirt. She jerked him to his feet, feeling a sense of satisfaction when he kept his eyes on the floor, his shoulders slumped. Shooting Quinn one last glare, she shoved the boy towards the cafeteria doors.
