Narrative and Email to JBI Re: The Mysterious Man When: Nov 9, after school Where: The halls of McKinley Who: Melody, Jacob, random student and The Mystery Man (NPCs) Summary: Melody notices something weird after school today.
Melody had a few minutes between arriving at her locker after her last class of the day and having to go get ready for Swim practice. She usually spent the time chatting with Lindsey and her other friends and today was no different in that regard, until she saw the man talking to a student across the way. He was older and Melody had this nagging feeling that she'd seen him before. Oh, yes. He'd come into the shop about a week ago, took a look around and then left again. What was he doing here?
Excusing herself from her friends, Melody took a page out of Jacob's playbook and sidled up behind the man, listening in as he asked the boy a few questions about "strange things going on" and any "new abilities" he might have developed. Okay, that was weird. How come the boy was just answering like it was no big deal?
Or maybe he wasn't. The boy suddenly shook his head and asked, "Who are you again? You aren't a teacher here. Dude, what new abilities? I don't know if I should be talking to you..."
The mystery man, his face full of concern and a little bit of fear, turned around, his eyes locking right on Melody's. Crap. Busted.
Clearing her throat, Melody fought off the blush on her cheeks and walked away like she hadn't just been eavesdropping. Once she got around the corner, she looked back to see the man talking to the boy again, who appeared to be cooperating now. Okay, what the heck was going on?
To: Jacob Ben Israel From: melody.koenig@mckinley.edu Subject: A tip
Hi Jacob,
You probably don't know me, but my name is Melody. I'm a sophomore and I saw something strange that I thought you might want to investigate. No, it's not another gay sex scandal (though the upstairs girls bathroom has been interesting lately). This afternoon, after classes, there was a man asking strange questions. He seemed like he might be from the government or something. Have you seen him? Could we meet to talk about it? I feel like this should be in the school newspaper, and I know you're the reporter to really get to the bottom of this.
