Thread: Glee Practice Who: New Directions, Mr. Schue When: Oct. 18th, directly after school Where: Choir Room What: Tuesday meetings, invitationals loom nearer still
Mr. Schuester surveyed the member of New Directions, new and old, on one of their final meetings before Invitationals. With a heavy heart, he realized that they were still missing their powerhouse diva, Mercedes Jones. Her seat was not easy to fill - literally, no one sat in the chair where Mercedes usually sat. (Not even Artie, who now required an actual chair in the choir room.) It was rather morbid, almost like someone had died. Mr. Schuester was so distraught that he nearly forgot to write on the dry erase board behind him. But the marker clutched between his fingers reminded him.
Turning, he scrawled out: "INVITATIONALLS" Inevitably, one of the more academically-inclined students quickly called out his mistake. 'Invitationals' only needed one 'L.' Oh, well. This was why Will taught Spanish. The words were much easier to spell.
"Guys, I know we don't have much time before Invitationals, but in the grand tradition of New Directions, we have a last minute addition," he announced, capping his marker. "Artie has something he would like to share. So, with that said, I turn the floor over to him. Artie?"
Artie, who had been waiting out in the hall, his heart pounding like a drum, rolled himself into the room. Before anyone could say what they were all thinking, he held up a hand to stop them. "Just so you know, I don't need this," he said, gesturing to the wheelchair. "This isn't even mine. I found it backstage, from when we did Proud Mary. I have, um... a dance number for you guys."
Smiling shyly, he wheeled to the center of the open floor. He dropped his head, taking a deep breath, and thinking through all the last minute tips he'd received from Mike Chang. When he was composed, he nodded to Brad, his EMC. "Everybody has a dream," said Artie. "And this is mine."
