GLEE CLUB! Thread: Glee Club meeting Date: 8/30, after school (backdated) Characters: New Directions Location: Choir Room Summary: The first official New Directions' meeting of the school year.
Will Schuester loved the start of the school year. The fresh faces. The new friends being made. Catching up with his students from the past years. But nothing was as good as the first Glee club meeting. He'd had a planning period last thing, so he'd used it to get situated. By the time the kids arrived, he had a table filled with healthy snacks and drinks, and a song all picked out to welcome his kids back. They'd had informal meetings during the Enrichment period last week, but this was the important meeting.
"Welcome back, kids," he said brightly as the room started to fill up. "I hope everyone had a wonderful summer, and got out to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine." He missed the incredulous looks most of the kids sent him, too eager to get started with the plan for Nationals. Most of his kids were Seniors this year, and he wasn't going to let them down by not winning Nationals this year.
"I thought we'd start out with a song. I've prepared one to welcome you all back, and to set the tone for the year. We're going to work hard and prepare, prepare, prepare for Nationals, starting now." He nodded to Brad to cue the music, and then belted out the show-stopping number from April's show. It really had nothing to do with coming back to school, but he felt bad that the kids hadn't been able to make it to New York to see his Broadway debut.
The music ended, and he stood in front of the kids as they applauded. He wiped the sweat from his brow, and grinned. "Now, let's talk business." He pointed to the white board he'd prepared. "Our assignment for the week is..." he paused dramatically. "Country!" He ignored the few groans, and explained how they had to get back to basics before they could build a winning set list for Nationals.
"So, I'd like everyone to prepare a song to sing this week, either alone or in a small group. Also, we need to talk about recruiting new members. Most of you are graduating this year, so we need some fresh faces. We'll be holding auditions for new members next week. While I will have the final say, I'd like your input as well, so I'm going to ask that you all attend the auditions and take notes. We'll share them at next Thursday's meeting."
Now that all the business had been taken care of, he pulled a chair over to straddle it backwards. "So, how were your summer vacations?"
