log ; firestarter and remedy
who? Todd Foley and Niko Hendriks.
when? Sometime in the afternoon on January 20th.
what? Todd as had a tough week and his roommate has made it just a little bit worse.
After everything they’d been through in the past week, homework just didn’t seem all that important, and as Todd sat at his desk, one earbud in, rattling off the audio copy of their textbook, he knew that less than half the information was actually sticking. It just didn’t seem to matter. He sighed, slipping into his bio-sense for a moment. Niko was over on his side of the room, doing God knows what. They never talked much, and he realized he should probably do something about that, but it just seemed like too much work. Maybe they were right and he needed rest, after all he’d done... He sighed again. This was getting him nowhere. The lack of talking didn’t really bother his roommate. Growing up as an only child, lack of talking much was perfectly normal to Niko and frankly he didn’t see the need of carrying on idle conversation. If Todd had nothing to say to him, it was all good. No harm and no foul as they say. Another benefit of not talking was the silence gave him plenty of time to dig around the surface thoughts of Todd’s mind for things he could use to mess with his head. His roommates head was strangely easier to sift through and Niko guess it was probably because it wasn’t filled with visuals like everyone else. It allowed him to get some good things really. Sighing to himself, he sat back in his chair and stared at his roommate for a moment. Then from across the room in the direction of the door came a female voice from out of thin air. “Todd?” Todd’s brow furrowed, and then relaxed into a smile as he pulled out the earbud and shuffled toward the door. Of course. He’d asked Charlie to come over when she’d gotten the chance. She must’ve shifted out of her unwilling male form on the way back. While on the one hand, he supposed it meant he wouldn’t be proving he was a man of his word, he had to admit it was a bit of a relief. Something uncomplicated would definitely be more his speed, the way things had been. “Hey, I thought you weren’t coming until...later...” Opening the door, however, made him frown again. No one was in the hall -- his bio-sense told him that much -- let alone Charlie. “Hey, Niko did you hear something?” Setting down his pen onto the desk, Niko leaned back and watched his roommates reaction. It seemed he had made a good choice on picking the girl who had been hanging around the room lately. Smiling to himself, he tucked that bit of information in the back of his head and did his best not to laugh that Todd actually fell for it enough to go to the door. “Hmm?” he answered after a moment. “No. I did not hear anything.” “Okay,” Todd said after a moment, brow still furrowed. He could have sworn he’d heard Charlie calling him, could have sworn it’d come from the door. He shook his head. Wishful thinking, he supposed as he made his way back to the desk, picking up his abandoned earbud and quickly rewinding the audiobook to where he’d left off. Following his roommates lead, Niko went back to his own work for a few minutes. His pen scratched against his notebook as his eyes kept darting to the clock on the corner of his desk. Almost four minutes later, as his pen kept going, Todd would hear the same voice calling his name once more. This time, Todd hesitated, biting his lower lip as he wondered whether or not it was worth investigating. Maybe someone had their TV on too loud while watching The Fox and the Hound again. “Did you hear that?” he asked over his shoulder after a moment. Niko hadn’t reacted. That had to be a bad sign, didn’t it? “No.” He shook his head to drive the point despite the fact Todd couldn’t see it. “What did you hear?” “Nothing,” Todd said quickly, frowning. “I just... thought I’d heard somebody call me.” He felt his cheeks burning. Twice in less than ten minutes, he’d embarrassed himself in front of his roommate -- who likely thought he was crazy, now. But he could have sworn he’d heard it, both times. “You are probably just tired and stressed,” he replied in his most reassuring voice. The last thing he wanted was Todd figuring things out and ruining his amusement. “I think brains can get weird with stuff like that. I saw it on a science show once.” Science show. Right. That made sense. Todd sighed, nodding. He’d been pushing himself, he guessed. “All right,” he replied. “Thanks.” “Not a problem.” That would be enough for today. After all, he didn’t want this game to get old too fast. |
