WHO: Sophie Wilson, Miu Ichiki-Quire & Wren Richards
WHERE: Each in their own respective rooms.
WHAT: Tiny narrative regarding their nightmares, ofc.
It burned. Each inhale drew in the thick cloud of smoke, filled her lungs and burned--no escape from the suffocation was offered, just the stale scent of flesh bubbling and splitting beneath the harsh cackle of fire. It was too thick, too dark, and she couldn't see anything but she knew. For all that it was, Sophie knew in the pit of her stomach what had happened and she knew that it had been her fault. What good was being a Wilson, being a mutant if you weren't going to protect the people you loved most? Only their shadows lingered, bouncing across the walls in staggering, broken movements. Shadows left behind to creep into a little girl's room. Nightmares were for children, her papa had always told her that, but that never seemed to help much. Cling, as she did, to her stuffed animals and dolls with all her might and it never really helped, the menacing ghosts of an imagination gone wrong tormented her all the same. Spiders skittered across the floor and gathered beneath her bed, piling atop one another until they were an immovable mound that demanded her bed be lifted towards the ever-growing ceiling. A clown cackled at her from one corner, as sharp-toothed beasts advanced with hunger in their eyes. She opened her mouth to cry out, but it had been a dry and empty whimper that garnered no demand for attention. She needed someone. Someone to come in, hold her and tell her it was all a bad dream. Only, this time Miu didn't have her mother to call out for. She was alone. Despite all of her efforts and her (albeit, misplaced) dedication to the cause, she had failed all the same. Everyone split. Father turned on son, mother on daughter, brothers and sisters were furious with one another and a family that had once been so great in the young girl's eyes had now crumbled and disappeared. Even her own father had walked away from her and, floundering in her tears, Wren could not find the words to object. In her arms her mother wasted away from sadness and--she couldn't breathe. This is what it meant to be entirely alone. Friends: she expected them to come and go, as it was only natural; but family was supposed to be forever. Family was supposed to be perfect, immovable and bound tightly--despite all of their faults, they were supposed to love one another for all of eternity. But they didn't. They didn't love her. This was what she feared most of all. |
