Letter Home WHO: Jane Bennet to Mrs Bennet WHAT: A letter sent home WHEN: July 3rd
Dearest Mama,
Summerview Park is delightful as ever. Much of its splendor remains a mystery as we still have not discovered how our hostess accomplishes many of the feats of entertainment that she provides for us. We awoke to the delights of the seaside these last few days, and it is as though we have ventured out to another location altogether. The company here is so varied and wonderful, Mama. Many of the guests recently put on a play, Lydia included, and it was monstrous good fun. We have also seen an opera very recently, and I found it quite romantic.
As for my sisters, Lydia, in particular, seems to be enjoying the beachside. She still has the attention of two young gentlemen here, though I admit that I am somewhat uncertain that either of them are truly capable of making her a worthwhile offer. They appear amiable enough, though something gives me pause.
Lizzie is quite well. She has also been enjoying the delights of the expansive grounds. You do know how she loves walking. The distance from home has allowed her new places to explore, and we have more books in the library than I have ever seen before! I have only read a few of them amidst our other delights, but I believe that Lizzie has enjoyed the variety greatly.
I will admit I have some concern for Kitty. She has been shockingly distant, even apart from Lydia’s colorful schemes. They are usually so attached at the hip, and yet I do not seem to see her as often as I would expect or like. Perhaps you may write a letter to cheer her.
What news from home? I do hope that Papa and yourself are well, and that your summer has been as fine as the days here at the estate. This trip has been just what I needed to reinvigorate my soul, and I feel a lightness here in a way that I have not previously experienced.
