Now the movers and shakers on Morgan Street
The Long Way Down has been decorated to the nines. There are new lights, the wobbly chairs and tables replaced, and pictures that Maeve had been intending to put up for ages on the walls, pictures of various holidays and groups of folk who had worked there or who had just become especially special favorites. You know, the fun kind of barflies. The waiters and waitresses had trays of new, colorful cocktails and jello shots balanced carefully on trays when they walked through the crowd, glasses that bubbled, sparkled, even some that were on fire. Because, you know, why not. Music from the backyard blares into the building inside, with just enough volume that it's still possible to hold a conversation. Mostly. It's merry, it's fun, aided by the pastries purchased from that bakery in town and the extra stock Maeve has broken out for the occasion, champagne, wine, and uncommon liquors from a scattering of human, surface countries and some from elsewhere as well. It's an unusual mix, fueled by a live band, shaken up by them taking breaks and switching to someone's phone serving as an MP3 player plugged into the speaker system that got passed around to the most random people. But it worked, somehow. Mostly. The Setup The Inside Bar as usual, there are a dozen of intermittently filled seats for you to get you and your friends drinks or order some actual food. Cocktails, margaritas as big as fish bowls, or shots setup in surfboards for some dumb reason. The Inside Games There are only three pool tables, and two heavy-duty, homemade dart boards. Usually, they cost a dollar a round, but tonight they've been modified to be free. Enjoy it while it lasts, kids. Feel free to tap the owner with goads and challenges if you think she can make a shot at either better than you. If you win you might get a drink on the house, or maybe if she's just especially pleased with herself. The Seating: if you're just looking for a place to nestle up against someone, there are a handful of booths and tables, some even some out of the way enough that it won't be as chaotic if that's what you're here for. The Back Patio has the band, and an attempted small dance area, along with a scattering of tables for anyone to sit at along with staff who come out regularly to take orders. There are a couple of firepits, in case it gets cold, but they are out of the way to avoid a tripping hazard. The Rooftop is accessed by either a newly installed metal spiral staircase on either side of the building, or an inside stairwell from beside the bar inside the building proper. For the most part, the outside one is the one used by customers so far, so make the inside stairs more accessible for staff. It has a grill with an employee at the helm at all times. It's nothing drastically unusual, beer brats, kabobs, cheeseburgers, though there is some locally caught fish as well, and one tier of the grill dedicated to vegetables to cater to those with specific dietary requirements. It's a bit quieter up here, feel free to just grab a plate from beside the grill and ask for what you want, so it's cash only if you order that way. As promised, a large portion of the furniture is new, including well-crafted oak picnic tables on both the roof and the back patio. |
