For all the experience she had to prove otherwise, Lexie genuinely believed in the good of people. She’d hitchhiked plenty of times before to know what to expect. And there was a baseball bat in the backseat if she was forced to defend herself. She had no doubt in her ability where that was concerned.
Given the number of cars that had blazed past her, Lexie had stopped paying attention to the movement around her. It was a only the call that caught her attention and caused her to look up.
“If you’ve got it to give, I’ll take it,” she called back in return. Lexie whispered a litany of thanks under her breath for whatever being threw fortune in her favor today. Before leaving the car, she popped both the hood and the trunk, covering all her bases depending on the help this man could offer.
“Are you more a mechanic or a brute strength sort of guy? Either way, I’ve got to get my baby off the road.”
