Kanuna tried to shake off Samuel's reaction to him telling him about meeting up with a new werewolf tonight to go over some of the basics. His friend had taken it hard, he knew, but Kanuna didn't want to cancel on Matt. The guy had been left out in the wild without any sort of teacher other than someone Matt said was a shapeshifter, and that wasn't the same. He reminded Kanuna far too much of Samuel, what Samuel must have faced after leaving the tribe behind after being turned and having no one to turn to for help with the new life he'd been forced into. The guilt put a heavy pit in Kanuna's stomach as he waited for Matt to get off work and make it over to the island. Kanuna had told Matt to meet at the park and to come find him, so he was making himself not very easy to be found. He wanted the new wolf to use his nose to find him. He'd wandered into a forested area of the park and sat amidst the trees, his back to a trunk and his face turned up towards the sky. He could see the tiny sliver of the moon rising, waxing barely out of a new moon, and could count the days until it was full again. Not long now. Its light cutting through the sparse cloud cover made Kanuna's skin itch for movement. This was the best day of the month for this, the furthest they'd get between full moons to practice some wolf antics. Being that this was Summerview, Kanuna didn't think anyone would bat much of an eye at two wolves walking out of the park. He'd brought a pack to stow his clothes but before he even transformed, he had to make sure Matt knew how to do it without the moon's compulsion. It was an advanced lesson for a new wolf, but one that was important in teaching how it felt knowing the wolf was coming out, to be able to recognize it before it came out involuntarily and hurt someone. It was a lesson he wished he'd been around to teach Samuel. Kanuna closed his eyes and listened to the sounds around him, occasionally breathing in to smell the air for any signs of the other werewolf. |
