Even if I’m back on the path
Sleeping hadn't come easily to Aurora since she got out of the lamp. When she put music on or a movie it helped, but since coming to Summerview it felt like so much of her progress had been lost. Far from her (admittedly small) bedroom in the City, and therefore far from her comfort zone. The nightmares had come back full force, and even when her mind was calm she couldn't help but move everytime she thought she heard something.
Which also made no sense, because the quiet drove her mad as well. It was rarely quiet in the City, there were people outside her window arguing, phone conversations going on above and below her, trains, cars, sirens, something. Summerview, comparatively, was so quiet. It was like living in Woodstock again, fresh from The Summerlands, fresh from the lamp. It would pass. Aurora perservered through it the first time, and she would again. Getting an exercise routine would help. Any sort of routine, really, maybe she would pick up a second job. Anything that would wear her out. The amount of energy that she was slowly acquiring after being away from the Iron of the city was also making her feel unsteady. It was just. A lot. No wonder her thoughts were so scattered. No wonder she gave up and took herself down to the coffee shop with a book about Into The Woods, filled with behind the scenes images from the original stage play. The shop was Hob owned - Aurora could feel it - but the Fae wasn't here at the time, otherwise she wouldn't have braved it. But it was the only 24 hour place open that didn't serve alcohol and wasn't going to be crowded. A tray of pita bread and bowl of hummus was in front of her, along with a soy latte, because she might as well be alert if she was going to be in 'public', or at least, a mostly deserted bakery. |
