Slipping into a seat at the bar, Timpani smiled at the bartender, waiting for him to come over to get her order. She was making good progress with getting the art gallery open in Summerview and was excited for what she was doing. That said, relaxing was also important. “Good day?” she asked the blonde sitting next to her, making small talk.
While In Vino Veritas wasn't normally the kind of place that Everleigh hung out (she was more of a ‘dive bar with the guys’ type, or ‘pj's and cheapo wine at home with Cece), there was something to be said about this place. Pretty wait staff, chill atmosphere, and she couldn't forget the hottie head chef who'd visited the shop a while back. Yum. As was her norm, Ever was off in her own little world, making a list of all the things she needed to pick up to finish Khoshekh’s intricate play palace (she had yet to get the things for his little swimming pool. While he was mostly cat, he was also part fish, and did enjoy swimming). Turning at the sound of the voice, her head tilted, a small smile gracing her features. “Not too bad, but I was told I needed to ‘unwind’, and apparently my usual method of binge playing a video game for two days straight doesn't count.” “Do you play them with other people?” Timpani asked. That was an important question when it came to unwinding over two days. Smiling her thanks at the bartender, she handed him cash, waving away his offer for change. She might get another drink later, but she wasn’t drinking hard enough to need a tab. Thankfully, she was well enough known that no one questioned why she was drinking in the first place. “Sometimes. It depends on what I’m playing.” Lately, she’d been absorbed in the Spyro trilogy’s remaster. It was a nice little trip back to her childhood, and fighting with Daniel over who got to use the PlayStation. He usually won that argument, being the older, and bigger brother. Brushing her blonde hair over her shoulder, Ever took another long, sip from her glass. “What about you? Are you unwinding, or …?” Was she celebrating something? Ever was a curious creature. “Long day,” “Timpani replied, “but a productive one, so yeah, unwinding.” She sipped her wine for a moment, then continued, “It only counts if you’re being social when you play the games. Otherwise, you’re just holed up being antisocial. And while people are....people, well. You can’t avoid them forever. Nor should you,” it was almost like she was reminding herself of that. Timpani was a people person in a lot of ways, but that did not mean she did not enjoy quiet time, too. "Ugh, those are the worst, but at least it was productive, so yay." To be fair, most of Everleigh's days were long. Back to back jobs tended to do that. She was still seriously considering if staying on at the diner was worth the trouble anymore. Nodding, the other blonde did have a point. However, "Not saying that there's anything wrong with interacting with people, I mean would I be here right now if I thought that? Anyways, what if you don't happen to find going out and being social relaxing all the time?" While Ever loved people, and had an insanely large social circle, there were times when she just wanted to stay home, alone, and recharge. “I say... probably go home and have a bath after this. I should get a cat....” Timpani mused, “but then I’d likely just be a crazy cat lady and I’d still advise a hot bath. Nothing wrong with some me-time, just can’t be anti-social for days playing video games. Do you have Mario?” she did like Mariokart. “Hey, you’re only a crazy cat lady when you hit more than three cats.” At least, that was Ever’s firm belief. “Cats are fantastic though. My roommate and I have a cat ... “ Well, she was half cat, at any rate. She had to admit, though, a hot bath sounded amazing. When was the last time she’d had a good, hot bath? She couldn’t even remember. Nodding, Ever finished off the last of the wine she’d had in her glass, before waving the bartender down to request another. “I do have Mario. Several of them actually.” Mariokart was a classic, and Ever liked to keep it around on the off chance her and Cece were entertaining people. It was a good party game - not as good as, say, Smash Brothers, but she preferred it. “MarioKart is best played just slightly tipsy,” Timpani informed Ever, very solemnly, though she was far from drunk from her half-finished glass of wine, “Enough to be silly, not enough to be sloppy,” it was a fine line, especially for some people. “But yes. And a bath bomb. Candles. Make it a fancy bath,” she leaned over, a hand on her middle for balance slightly, “And you can buy these tub-shelf things that stretch across the tub that hold your wine glass and stuff so you don’t drop it.” “I’ve got a list of Mario Kart drinking games that are just fantastic. Drunk Mario Kart was a far more regular occurrence than it probably should be, but Ever loved it. It was fun, and lighthearted, even if the competition could get fierce. She was imagining that kind of relaxing bath as they spoke. Yeah, she was going to have to set aside some time for that in the near future, for sure. As she watched the other blonde, her eyes dropped to where her hand fell to the bump at her middle. Ever’s brow furrowed slightly, and she brought one finger to her lips as she looked at her new friend with concern. “Not trying to be, y’know, rude or anything but .. Should you be, y’know,” she mimed drinking, her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth slightly, and her eyes looking a bit cross. Not the most attractive of faces, she knew. “With that whole situation you’ve got going on there?” “Cursed,” Timpani answered shortly, “All the unpleasant side effects, no actual screaming poop maker in the end, because no end. Or at least, no one seems to know how to break the curse,” which sucked, but at least she had some cuter clothes now. That helped some. She took a long swallow of her wine, finishing it and gesturing for another when the bartender got a chance, “Gotta say, if I ever do get it broken and kids are an option, I won’t need to buy clothes.” “Seriously? That blows.” How did one even get cursed like that? Not exactly something she planned on asking the other girl - that seemed a little too personal considering they’d only just met. Another round of drinks were delivered for both girls. “At least there’s an upside? And hey, maternity clothes are totally getting cuter, so there’s that?” “I guess,” granted, yes, it was nice now that pregnancy wasn’t something to be hidden and the clothing was better, but it would be better for the pregnancy to be less permanent. “Can’t wear my going-out heels though really. My feet swell like balloons within the first few minutes and my balance is crap,” getting her second glass of wine, Timpani swirled it for a moment before taking a sip, “And don’t tell me I’m too tall for heels. That’s some sexist bullshit boys spout when they feel intimidated. I like heels.” Heels. Everleigh’s worst nightmare. “Hey, you’re not gonna get any judgement from me. If you want to wear heels, go for it. I applaud your ability to even walk in those death traps. The last time I tried, I ended up with a broken ankle.” That was a fun little memory that she was not willing to revisit. “Anything higher than an inch, and I’m likely to break my neck.” Bringing the wine glass to her lips, she paused. “Why is it that guys think that trying to tell us what we can, and cannot wear, is like a thing? I swear, if a guy tried to tell me what to wear, I’d probably punch him.” “Because guys think they run the world,” obviously, “They need to speak less and sit quietly and let the real adults do things,” namely, the women. That was how she had ended up cursed as it was. Stupid boy hadn’t mentioned his witchy girlfriend or a girlfriend at all. Timpani was many things, but she was not a cheater! And she was not the other woman if she could help it! “Well. That’s depressing. Mario Kart?” “Idiots,” she muttered. “I mean, most guys here in town tend to flee when they find out I know more about their precious car than they do.” She’d never had any kind of serious relationship. A date, maybe two, or a hookup. That tended to be where things ended. “It wouldn’t be so bad if they, y’know, didn’t pretend like they know everything, and could actually admit when they were wrong.” She downed what was left in her wine glass - all thought of what kind of wine she’d been drinking had long since floated out of her head. “Hell yeah, Mario Kart..” Flagging down the bartender, she closed out her tab. “I’m Everleigh, by the by.” “Timpani,” she awkwardly offered her hand, “Let’s get a ride to rainbow road,” she agreed. |
