I've had the blues, the reds and the pinks
It probably went without saying that it was an unusually busy night at In Vino Veritas. But it was also one of those nights Julius had volunteered to work on purpose. Not for the sake of bringing home decent tips (though that was certainly a draw), but because as far as he concerned it was like any other busy night. What was Valentine's Day anyway, but a saint's day with a bloody history pasted over a a charming Ancient Roman holiday by some old pope?
An excuse to sell cards and chocolate? Ridiculous. And yet, here he was, profiting off the foolishness. Ah well. Maybe he was a little bit of a hypocrite. It was good to see Eddie come in though. Better to know he was out and about than sulking at home on a day like today, knowing that for some people (not Julius, though he at least understood the concept) a day devoted to love and romance--however ludicrous it might be--probably rubbed someone who'd loved and lost the wrong way. "You here for the special," Julius asked the other man with a knowing grin as he slid into an empty bar stool, "or do you just want a double of something straight up?" |
