“Altruistic ideals fell to the modern age,” he replied gently. A huff of a bitter laugh echoed after. He understood both sides. He knew there was a danger to not being guarded, and by taking on a stranger, those at the Cathedral were risking themselves. Yet, the good will he and his brother had heard of ideally, the outreach to aid someone in need being a gift freely given, lingered in his mind. As someone who had no protection until Zander was pinpointed, it was his only true option. Much like most of the past few months, the brief stay was one more obstacle to get over. Though, now he knew the prize was real. “It could be far worse, and we both know it.”
To the statement, a smile broke across his face. One that was tinged slightly with sadness, but there was hope there as well. He looked above Zander’s shoulder, then to the floor with a few small nods of his head, before looking back at his brother. Perhaps he was too okay with everything. Was he over the fact that he had died? No, not at all. But he had found his brother. He was not alone. Life would sort itself. “It is easy to be so when you are given a new lease on life, perhaps.” Grayson pulled back to his full height and let his hand ruffle through Zander’s hand before dropping to his side with a soft thud.
“I am here for a couple of days, regardless. My…” He paused, and lips parted as he sifted through the various terms he had heard thrown around, “ride is here with family. If you have the time, perhaps you could introduce me to this new world of yours.” There was a question to his words. A wash of fear over the hopefulness. No doubt Zander wanted to. He could see that as clear as day. Obligations, however, were a beast of their own.
