A mermaid... Daciana had heard they existed, but even when she was living in Louisiana, she'd never met one. She was pretty sure one of her brothers had (her money was on David since he was the one with the revolving door), but this was definitely a first for her... and it immediately gave her an idea for the painting she wanted to do for the young woman's office.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend if I did. I was just... surprised. I don't know a lot about mermaid customs. You're the first one I've met!" It may have been underwhelming as an apology, but her excitement kind of took over for a moment. As a little girl, she'd always pretended she was a mermaid. She thought having a beautiful tail like they were depicted to have would be amazing... and as a Naiad, she could do things similar to the species itself.
As Nurse van der Zee explained about her family and what they normally did, Daciana listened carefully. They sounded like socialites in a sense. Political and moneyed if those were the kinds of jobs they upheld and expected from their offspring. To Daciana, it simply came across as another way to try to help people... if they were the upstanding sort.
"It sounds to me like they just try to help people in a different way." That was Daciana, though, always tryingto believe the best about others. Always trying to find that silver lining. "I mean, honestly, I think being a doctor is pretty fantastic. You get to help people, even if you don't have a good bedside manner. Dr. House, the tv show, he doesn't have a good bedside manner. Saving lives is one of the most noble things I can think of to do. I think, while your family may do it on a bigger scale, you do it one on one with people everyday. Even in a lab. It's new ways to save people right?" she questioned, making her way through the space as ideas ran rampant.
"It takes some serious skill and intelligence to become a doctor. And dedication. Few people in this world put forward the work that you do. That you chose to do. That alone speaks volumes about who you are a person."
