Peisinoê waved a hand at the apology in dismissal, not trying to be rude but just trying to convey that no contriteness on the other girl's behalf was necessary. It probably could have been taken as a compliment, really, depending on where you were from.
"Well what was planned was an arranged marriage so I think I got the better end of 'destiny' if you ask me." She laughed even as she formed air quotes with her hands, clearing her throat as soon as she realized that was probably a little bizarre for someone who grew up in America.
Her eyes widened, and she felt very foolish all of a sudden. Not that it was a terribly new feeling in social situations, "Oh!" Fantastic. Just her day. This girl clearly had too much in common with her sister, "Uh, I don't work here as a Doctor. My family wouldn't approve, besides, my people skills are lacking so I'm a better use in the lab anyway." That's all. It wasn't weird at all.
